1 CORINTHIANS

Chapter 7

Update:  20220101

1 Cor. 7:1 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) about (peris) things of which (hōn) you wrote (egrapsate), [it, AE] [is] beautiful (kalon) for [a] mortal (anthrōpō) not (mē) to take hold (haptesthai) of [a] female (gunaikos).

1 Cor. 7:2 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) through (dia) [the sake, AE] of the (tas) fornications (porneias), <let> each (hekastos) [mortal, v1, RE] have (echetō) the (tēn) female (gunaika) of himself (heautou);

and (kai) <let> each (hekastē) [female, RE] have (echetō) the (ton) male (andra) of her own (idion).

1 Cor. 7:3 (LIT/UBS4) <Let> the (ho) male (anēr) give away (apodidotō) the (tēn) indebtedness (opheilēn) to the (tē) female (gunaiki);

but (de) likewise (homoiōs) the (hē) female (gunē) also (kai) to the (tō) male (andri).

1 Cor. 7:4 (LIT/UBS4) The (hē) female (gunē) absolutely does not have authority (ouk exousiazei) of the (tou) body (sōmatos) of her own (idiou), BUT (alla), the (ho) male (anēr) [has authority, RE]!

But (de) likewise (homoiōs), the (ho) male (anēr) also (kai) absolutely does not have authority (ouk exousiazei) of the (tou) body (sōmatos) of his own (idiou), BUT (alla), the (hē) female (gunē) [has authority, RE]!

1 Cor. 7:5 (LIT/UBS4) Do not defraud (mē apostereite) one another (allēlous), if (ei) not (mēti) perhaps (an) out (ek) of harmony together with (sumphōnou) [one another, RE] for (pros) [a] time (kairon), in order that (hina) you may be schooled (scholasēte) for the (tē) prayer of well-thankfulness to4335 (proseuchē) [God, AE];

and (kai) again (palin), upon (epi) the (to) same (auto) [time, RE], you may be (ēte) [in harmony together with one another, RE], in order that (hina) the (ho) Satan (Satanas) may not test (mē peirazē) you (humas) through (dia) the (tēn) lack of willpower (akrasian) of you (humōn).

(For the devil, the *god of this cosmos, coming to steal, kill, and destroy the assembly (ekklēsia), the one body of Christ, and all mortalkind, to cause them to wander away from the one true God and his Word, see Mat. 6:13, 13:19; Mark 1:13a, 4:15, 13:5-6; Luke 13:16, 21:8, 22:3, 31; John 8:44, 10:10a, 13:27; Acts 5:3; 1 Cor. 7:5, 31b; 2 Cor. 2:11, *4:4, 11:13-15; Gal. 1:4; Eph. 4:11-14, 6:11-16; 1 Thes. 2:17-18; 2 Thes. 2:7-12; 1 Tim. 4:1-2, 5:13-15; 2 Tim. 3:13; 1 John 3:11-13, 4:1-6, 5:19; 2 John 1:7; Rev. 2:9, 12-15, 20, 12:7-17; 13:14, 18:21-23, 19:20, 20:3-10)

1 Cor. 7:6 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I say (legō) this (touto) down according to (kata) experiential knowledge together with (sungnōmēn) [[a] female, v4, RE], absolutely not (ou) down on account (kat’) of [an] appointment (epitagēn)!

1 Cor. 7:7 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I desire (thelō) all (pantas) mortals (anthrōpous) to be (einai) as (hōs) myself (emauton) also (kai).

BUT (alla), each one (hekastos) has (echei) his own (idion) gracious gift (charisma) out (ek) of God (theou).

Truly (men), the one (ho) [has, RE] thusly (houtōs), but (de) the [other, AE] one (ho) [has, RE] thusly (houtōs)!

1 Cor. 7:8 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I say (legō) to the (tois) unmarried ones (agamois) and (kai) to the (tais) bereaved ones (chērais), [it, AE] [is] beautiful (kalon) for them (autois) if perhaps (ean) they may stay (meinōsin) as (hōs) I also (kagō).

1 Cor. 7:9 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) they can absolutely not empower themselves (ouk enkrateuontai), marry (gamēsatōsan)!

Because (gar) is it (estin) [a] stronger position (kreitton) to marry (gamēsai), or (ē) to be on fire (purousthai)?

1 Cor. 7:10 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) to the ones (tois) having married (gegamēkosin) I give instructions (parangellō), absolutely not (ouk) I (egō), BUT (alla), the (ho) lord (kurios):

[a] female (gunaika) is not to be separated (mē chōristhēnai) away from (apo) [the] male (andros) [of her, AE]!

1 Cor. 7:11 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai), but (de) if perhaps (ean) [a] separation may have been made (chōristhē), let [her, AE] stay (menetō) unmarried (agamos), or (ē) be reconciled (katallagētō) to the (tō) male (andri) [of her, AE];

and (kai) [a] male (andra) [is] not (mē) to let go (aphienai) [of the] female (gunaika) [of him, AE].

1 Cor. 7:12 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) to the (tois) remaining ones (loipois) I (egō) say (legō), absolutely not (ouch) the (ho) lord (kurios), if (ei) any (tis) brother (adelphos) has (echei) [an] unbelieving (apiston) female (gunaika), and (kai) this one (hautē) together well approves (suneudokei) to homestead (oikein) together with (met’) him (autou), do not let go (mē aphietō) of her (autēn).

1 Cor. 7:13 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) [a] female (gunē), if (ei) any (ti) has (echei) [an] unbelieving (apiston) male (andra), and (kai) this one (houtos) together well approves (suneudokei) to homestead (oikein) together with (met’) her (autēs), do not let go (mē aphietō) of the (ton) male (andra).

1 Cor. 7:14 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (ho) male (anēr), the (ho) unbelieving one (apistos), has been made holy (hēgiastai) in (en) the (tē) female (gunaiki);

and (kai) the (hē) female (gune), the (hē) unbelieving one (apistos), has been made holy (hēgiastai) in (en) the (tō) brother (adelphō);

else (ara) otherwise (epei) the (ta) ones born (tekna) of you (humōn) are (estin) unclean ones (akatharta);

but (de) now (nun) [ones born, RE] are (estin) holy ones (hagia).

1 Cor. 7:15 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) the (ho) unbelieving one (apistos) is separated (chōrizetai), let [the unbelieving one, RE] be separated (chōrizesthō).

The (ho) brother (adelphos) or (ē) the (hō) sister (adelphē) in (en) the (tois) [homesteads, v13, RE] like these (toioutois) has absolutely not been made [a] slave (ou dedoulōtai)!

But (de) the (ho) God (theos) has called you aloud (keklēken humas) to peace (eirēnē).

1 Cor. 7:16 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) you have seen (oidas) what (ti), female (gunai), if (ei) the (ton) male (andra) shall make [you, AE] whole (sōseis)?

Or (ē), you have seen (oidas) what (ti), male (aner), if (ei) the (tēn) female (gunaika) shall make [you, AE] whole (sōseis)?

1 Cor. 7:17 (LIT/UBS4) If (ei) [you have, v16, RE] not (mē) [seen, v16, RE], walk around (peripateitō) thusly (houtōs) as (hōs) the (ho) lord (kurios) divided (emerisen) [[a] gracious thing,v7, RE] to each one (hekastō), as (hōs) the (ho) God (theos) has called aloud (keklēken) each one (hekaston).

And (kai) I cause myself to thoroughly arrange (diatassomai) thusly (houtōs) in (en) all (pasais) the (tais) assemblies (ekklēsiais).

1 Cor. 7:18 (LIT/UBS4) Was anyone (tis) having been circumcised (peritetmēmenos) called aloud (eklēthē)

Do not cause yourselves to be drawn over1986 (mē epispasthō)!

Has anyone (tis) in (en) [a] prepuce (akrobustia) been called aloud (keklētai)?

Do not let him be circumcised (mē peritemnesthō)!

1 Cor. 7:19 (LIT/UBS4) The one (hē) circumcised (peritomē) is (estin) absolutely not one thing (ouden), and (kai) the one (hē) prepuced (akrobustia) is (estin) absolutely not one thing (ouden)!

BUT (alla), [the one, RE] keeping [a] watch (tērēsis) of injunctions (entolōn) of God (theou) [is absolutely something, AE]!

1 Cor. 7:20 (LIT/UBS4) Each one (hekastos), in (en) the (tē) calling (klēsei) to which (hē) he was called aloud (eklēthē), let [him, AE] stay (menetō) in (en) to that (tautē) [calling, RE].

1 Cor. 7:21 (LIT/UBS4) [If, AE] you were called aloud (eklēthēs) [being] [a] slave (doulos), do not let it matter (mē meletō) to you (soi).

BUT (all’), if (ei) you can cause yourself to be inherently powered (dunasai) to cause yourself to become (genesthai) [a] free one (eleutheros) also (kai), cause yourself to make use (chrēsai) [of it, AE] more (mallon)!

1 Cor. 7:22 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the one (ho) in (en) [the] lord (kuriō), [the one, RE] having been called aloud (klētheis) [being] [a] slave (doulos), is (estin) of [the] lord (kuriou) one made free (apeleutheros)

Likewise (homoiōs), the (ho) free one (eleutheros) having been called aloud (klētheis) is (estin) [a] slave (doulos) of Christ (Christou).

1 Cor. 7:23 (LIT/UBS4) You [are] of value (timēs), you were bought at market (ēgorasthēte)!

Do not cause yourselves to become (mē ginesthe) slaves (douloi) of mortals (anthrōpōn).

1 Cor. 7:24 (LIT/UBS4) Each one (hekastos), in (en) [the calling, v22, RE] to which (hō) he was called aloud (eklēthē), brothers (adelphoi), let [each, RE] stay (menetō) in (en) to this one (toutō), alongside3844, 3936 (para) to God (theō).

(For a believer's responsibility to stand himself alongside of the Father through doing good works, in order to receive anything from him, see Mat. 6:1-4, 18:19, 19:26, 21:42; Mark 10:27, 12:11; Luke 1:30, 37; John 5:44, 6:45-46, 8:38-42, 9:16, 33, 17:5-8; Rom. 2:11-13, 6:13, 12:1; 1 Cor. 7:24, 8:8a; 2 Cor. 9:8; Gal. 3:11; Eph. 6:8; 1 Tim. 2:10; 2 Tim. 3:17; Tit. 2:14, 3:8,14; Heb. 10:24; James 1:5-7, 27; 1 Pet. 2:20-21; 2 Pet. 3:8; 2 John 1:3; Rev. 2:28)

1 Cor. 7:25 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) about (peri) the (tōn) ones in virginity (parthenōn), I absolutely do not have (ouk echō) [an] appointment (epitagēn) of [the] lord (kuriou)!

But (de) I give (didōmi) [this, AE] thinking (gnōmēn) to be (einai) believable (pistos), as (hōs) one having been given mercy (ēleēmenos) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of the lord (kuriou).

1 Cor. 7:26 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), I decide (nomizō)  this (touto) [is] beautiful (kalon) to have under control (huparchein), through (dia) [the sake, AE] of the (tēn) necessity (anankēn) having presently stood (enestōsan).

Because (hoti) for [a] mortal (anthrōpō), [a] beautiful one (kalon), the (to) [mortal, RE] [is] to be (einai) thusly (houtōs):

1 Cor. 7:27 (LIT/UBS4) You having been bound (dedesai) to [a] female (gunaiki), do not search (mē zētei) for [a] loosening (lusin) [from her, AE].

You having been let loose (lelusai) from (apo) [a] female (gunaikos), do not search (mē zētei) for [a] female (gunaika).

1 Cor. 7:28 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if perhaps (ean) you may marry (gamēsēs) also (kai), you have absolutely not sinned (ouch hēmartes)!

And (kai) if perhaps (ean) the (hē) one in virginity (parthenos) may have married (gēmē), she absolutely did not sin (ouch hēmarten)!

But (de) the ones (hoi) like these (toioutoi) shall hold (hexousin) mental pressure (thlipsin) [in, AE] the (tē) flesh (sarki).

But (de) I (egō) am causing myself to spare (pheidomai) you (humōn) [of mental pressure, RE].

1 Cor. 7:29 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I shed light5346 (phēmi) of this (touto), brothers (adelphoi), the (ho) time (kairos) having been arranged (sunestalmenos) is (estin) the (to) [time, RE] remaining (loipon);

and (kai) in order that (hina) the ones (hoi) having (echontes) females (gunaikas) may be (ōsin) as (hōs) [the ones, RE] not (mē) having (echontes) [females, RE];

1 Cor. 7:30 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) the ones (hoi) weeping (klaiontes) [may be, v29, ER] as (hōs) ones not weeping (mē klaiontes);

and (kai) the ones (hoi) rejoicing (chairontes) [may be, v29, ER] as (hōs) ones not rejoicing (mē chairontes);

and (kai) the ones (hoi) going to market to buy (agorazontes) [may be, v29, ER] as (hōs) ones not holding down (mē katechontes) [anything, AE];

1 Cor. 7:31 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) the ones (hoi) causing themselves to use (chrōmenoi) the (ton) cosmos (kosmon) [may be, v29, ER] as (hōs) ones not causing themselves to thoroughly use (mē katachrōmenoi) [the cosmos, RE];

because (gar) the (to) scheme (schēma) of the (tou) cosmos (kosmou) of this (toutou) leads [the ones, RE] aside (paragei)!

1 Cor. 7:32 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I desire (thelō) you (humas) to be (einai) unconcerned (amerimnous).

The (ho) unmarried one (agamos) worries (merimna) for the things (ta) of the (tou) lord (kuriou), how (pōs) he may be agreeable (aresē) to the (tō) lord (kuriō).

1 Cor. 7:33 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) one having married (gamēsas) worries (merimna) for the things (ta) of the (tou) cosmos (kosmou), how (pōs) he may be agreeable (aresē) to the (tē) female (gunaiki), and (kai)  he has been separated (memeristai) [from the lord, v32, RE].

1 Cor. 7:34 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) the (hē) female (gunē), both (kai) the (hē) unmarried one (agamos) and (kai) the (hē) one in virginity (parthenos), worries (merimna) for the things (ta) of the (tou) lord (kuriou), in order that (hina) she may be (ē) [a] holy one (hagia), both (kai) to the (tō) body (sōmati) and (kai) to the (tō) Spirit (pneumati).

But (de) the one (hē) having married (gamēsasa) worries (merimna) for the things (ta) of the (tou) cosmos (kosmou), how (pōs) she may be agreeable (aresē) to the (tē) male (andri).

1 Cor. 7:35 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I speak (legō) of this (touto) to (pros) the (to) [unmarried and married ones, v32-34, RE] of you (humōn), for [the] mutual benefit (sumphoron) of you (autōn).

[I speak, RE] absolutely not (ouch) in order that (hina) I may throw over (epibalō) you (humin) [a] lasso (brochon), BUT (alla), toward (pros) [the sake, AE] of the (to) [unmarried one and the one in virginity, v34, RE] [being] virtuous (euschēmon) and (kai) well-settled alongside (euparedron) to the (tō) lord (kuriō), undiverted (aperispastōs)!

1 Cor. 7:36 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) anyone (tis) decides (nomizei) to behave indecently (aschēmonein) over (epi) [the sake, AE] of the (tēn) virginity (parthenon) of him (autou), if perhaps (ean) it may be (ē) even yet over (huperakmos), and (kai) thusly (houtōs) [it, AE] [is] owed (opheilei) to be caused to come to pass (ginesthai), let him do (poieitō) that which (ho) he desires (thelei), let him marry (gameitōsan);

he absolutely does not sin (ouch hamartanei)!

1 Cor. 7:37 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) one who (hos) has stood (hestēken) settled (hedraios) in (en) the (tē) heart (kardia) of him (autou), not (mē) having (echōn) [a] necessity (anankēn), but (de) holds (echei) authority (exousian) about (peri) the (tou) desire (thelēmatos) of his own (idiou), and (kai) has determined (kekriken) this (touto) in (en) the (tē) heart (kardia) [being] his own (idia) to watchfully keep (tērein) the (tēn) virginity (parthenon) of himself (heautou), he shall do (poiēsei) beautifully (kalōs).

1 Cor. 7:38 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) so then (hōste), the one (ho) marrying (gamizōn) the (tēn) virgin (parthenon) of himself (heautou) does (poiei) beautifully (kalōs), and (kai) the one (ho) not (mē) marrying (gamizōn) shall do (poiēsei) stronger (kreisson).

1 Cor. 7:39 (LIT/UBS4) [A] female (gunē) has been bound (dedetai) over (uph’) time (chronon), as long as (hoson) the (ho) male (anēr) of her (autēs) lives (zē).

But (de) if perhaps (ean) the (ho) male (anēr) may be caused to rest (koimēthē), she is (estin) [a] free one (eleuthera) to marry (gamēthēnai) whom (hō) she desires (thelei), only (monon) in (en) [the] lord (kuriō).

1 Cor. 7:40 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) [a virgin, v38, RE] is (estin) [a] happier one (makariōtera) if perhaps (ean) thusly (houtōs) she may stay (meinē), down according to (kata) the (tēn) thinking (gnōmēn) of me (emēn).

But (de) I also (kagō) conclude (dokō) to hold (echein) Spirit (pneuma) of God (theou).
