2 CORINTHIANS

Chapter 2

Update:  20220906

2 Cor. 2:1 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) I determined (ekrina) the (to) [judgment, AE] of this (touto) for myself (emautō), to not come (mē elthein) to (pros) you (humas) again (palin) in (en) grief (lupē).

2 Cor. 2:2 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) if (ei) I (egō) grieve (lupō) you (humas), who (tis) also (kai) [is] the one (ho) making me well-pleased (euphrainōn me) if (ei) not (mē) the one (ho) being grieved (lupoumenos) out (ex) of me (emou)?

2 Cor. 2:3 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) I wrote (egrapsa) this (touto) same thing (auto) in order that (hina) I not having come (mē elthōn) I may have (schō) grief (lupēn) from (aph’) ones of whom (hōn) it is being required (edei) of me (me) to rejoice (chairein);

I having been persuaded (pepoithōs) over (epi) [the sake, AE] of all (pantas) of you (humas), that (hoti) the (hē) joy (chara) of me (emē) is (estin) of all (pantōn) of you (humōn)!

2 Cor. 2:4 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) out (ek) of much (pollēs) mental pressure (thlipseōs) and (kai) constraint (sunochēs) of heart (kardias) I wrote (egrapsa) to you (humin), through (dia) many (pollōn) tears (dakruōn).

[I wrote, RE] absolutely not (ouch) in order that (hina) you may be grieved (lupēthēte), BUT (alla), in order that (hina) you may know (gnōte) of the (tēn) love (agapēn) which (hēn) I have (echō) abundantly (perissoterōs) into (eis) you (humas)!

2 Cor. 2:5 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) anyone (tis) has caused grief (lelupēken), he has absolutely not caused [the] grief (ouk lelupēken) of me (eme)!

BUT (alla), [I am grieved, RE] from (apo) [being] apart (merous), in order that (hina) I may not be [a] weight upon (mē epibarō) all (pantas) of you (humas)!

2 Cor. 2:6 (LIT/UBS4) The (hē) epitome (epitimia), this one (hautē), [is] [a] suitable one (hikanon) for the (tō) one like this (toioutō), the one (hē) [being] under (hupo) [authority, AE] of the (tōn) majority (pleionōn).

2 Cor. 2:7 (LIT/UBS4) And so (hōste), more (mallon) on the contrary (tounantion), you (humas) are to cause yourselves to be gracious (charisasthai) [for the one like this, v6, RE], and (kai) to console (parakalesai) [one like this, v6, RE], [so that, AE] somehow (pōs) the one (ho) like this (toioutos) may not be drank down2666 (mē katapothē) [under, v6, RE] the (tē) abundant (perissotera) grief (lupē);

2 Cor. 2:8 (LIT/UBS4) through which (dio) [epitome, v6, RE] I accost (parakalō) you (humas) to confirm (kurōsai) into (eis) him (auton) [the] love (agapēn) [of you, AE]!

2 Cor. 2:9 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) in (eis) this (touto) [love, v8, RE] I wrote (egrapsa) also (kai), in order that (hina) I may know (gnō) the (tēn) proof (dokimēn) of you (humōn), if (ei) you are (este) attentive (hupēkooi) into (eis) all things (panta).

2 Cor. 2:10 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) to whom (hō) you cause yourselves to be gracious (charizesthe) of anything (ti), I am also (kagō).

Because (gar) I (egō) also (kai) [have been gracious, AE] to whom (ho) I have caused myself to be gracious (kecharismai);

if (ei) anything (ti) I have caused myself to be gracious (kecharismai) through (di’) [the sake, AE] of you (humas), in (en) [the] face (prosōpō) of Christ (Christou);

2 Cor. 2:11 (LIT/UBS4) in order that (hina) we may not be coveted (mē pleonektēthōmen) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of the (tou) Satan (Satana).

Because (gar) we are absolutely not ignorant (ou agnooumen) of the (ta) perceptions (noēmata) of him (autou)!

(For the devil, the *god of this cosmos, coming to steal, kill, and destroy the assembly (ekklēsia), the one body of Christ, and all mortalkind, to cause them to wander away from the one true God and his Word, see Mat. 6:13, 13:19; Mark 1:13a, 4:15, 13:5-6; Luke 13:16, 21:8, 22:3, 31; John 8:44, 10:10a, 13:27; Acts 5:3; 1 Cor. 7:5, 31b; 2 Cor. 2:11, *4:4, 11:13-15; Gal. 1:4; Eph. 4:11-14, 6:11-16; 1 Thes. 2:17-18; 2 Thes. 2:7-12; 1 Tim. 4:1-2, 5:13-15; 2 Tim. 3:13; 1 John 3:11-13, 4:1-6, 5:19; 2 John 1:7; Rev. 2:9, 12-15, 20, 12:7-17; 13:14, 18:21-23, 19:20, 20:3-10)

2 Cor. 2:12 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I having come (elthōn) into (eis) the (tēn) Troas (Trōada) in (eis) the (to) Evangelism (euangelion) of the (tou) Christ (Christou), and (kai) [a] door (thuras) having been opened up (aneōgmenēs) for me (moi) in (en) [the] lord (kuriō),

2 Cor. 2:13 (LIT/UBS4) I had (eschēka) absolutely no (ouk) relaxation (anesin) for the (tō) spirit (pneumati) of me (mou);

for the (tō) [spirit, RE] of me (me) not (mē) to find (heurein) Titus (Titon), the (ton) brother (adelphon) of me (mou)!

BUT (alla), having caused myself to say farewell away from (apotaxamenos) them (autois), I came out (exēlthon) into (eis) Macedonia (Makedonian)!

2 Cor. 2:14 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) grace (charis) [be] to the (tō) God (theō), to the one (tō) always (pantote) leading us triumphantly (thriambeuonti hēmas) in (en) the (tō) Christ (Christō), and (kai) manifesting (phanerounti) the (tēn) fragrance (osmēn) of the (tēs) knowledge (gnōseōs) of him (autou) through (di’) us (hēmōn) in (en) every (panti) place (topō).

(For the Spirit of God being in Christ, and the Spirit of Christ being in those who believe upon his name, making them more than conquerors now, see Mat. 10:25; Acts 1:4-8; Rom. 8:9-11, 37; 1 Cor. 12:6; 2 Cor. 2:14, 13:3-5; Gal. 1:16; Eph. 1:19-20, 4:13, 6:13-18; Phil. 2:13, 4:13; Col. 1:27-29; 1 Thes. 2:13; 2 Tim. 1:7; 1 John 4:4, 5:4-5)

2 Cor. 2:15 (LIT/UBS4) Because (hoti) of Christ (Christou) we are (esmen) [a] good scent (euōdia) to the (tō) God (theō), among (en) the ones (tois) being made whole (sōzomenois).

2 Cor. 2:16 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) among (en) the ones (tois) which (hois) [are] truly (men) being destroyed (apollumenois), [we are, v15, RE] [a] fragrance (osmē) out (ek) of death (thanatou) into (eis) death (thanaton).

But (de) to ones (hois) [not, AE] [being destroyed, RE] [we are, v15, RE] [a] fragrance (osmē) out (ek) of life (zōēs) into (eis) life (zōēn).

And (kai) which one (tis) [is] [a] suitable one (hikanos) to (pros) [speak, v17, RE] of these things (tauta)?

2 Cor. 2:17 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) we are (esmen) absolutely not (ou) as (hōs) many (polloi), ones selling (kapēleuontes) the (ton) Word (logon) of the (tou) God (theou)!

BUT (all’), as (hōs) out (ex) of clear judgment (eilikrineias), BUT (all’), as (hōs) out (ek) of God (theou), down opposite in front (katenanti) of God (theou), in (en) Christ (Christō), we speak (laloumen)!
