2 CORINTHIANS

Chapter 5

Update:  2024.04.11

2 Cor. 5:1 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) we have seen (oidamen) that (hoti) if perhaps (ean) the (hē) house (oikia) of the (tou) tent (skēnous) of us (hēmōn) upon land (epigeios) may be brought down (kataluthē), we have (echo) [a] domed-roof house3619 (oikodomēn) out (ek) of God (theou);

[a] house (oikian) not hands-made (acheiropoiēton);

[an] ageless one (aiōnion) in (en) the (tois) heavens (ouranois)!

(For what is God’s prophesied true “tent”, his new holy place under his new covenant, the prophesied promise of the Father to place himself into believers to live in them as his new permanent domicile, a true “tent” not built with mortal’s hands but with his own hand, see Ex. 15:17; 2 Sam. 7:5-16; Isa. 8:14; Ezek. 11:16; Joel 2:28-29; Amos 9:11-12; Mat. 3:11, 16:18, 26:61, 27:39-40; Mark 14:58, 15:29; Luke 3:21-22, 24:49; *John 2:19-22, 3:1-, 4:20-24, 7:37-39, 14:2, *23; Acts 1:4-5, 2:16-18, 33, 38-39, *7:44-50, *15:16-18, *17:24, *20:28; *Rom. 8:9-11, 12:4-5; 1 Cor. *3:16-17, *6:19-20, 10:16-17, 12:12-28; *2 Cor. 5:1, *6:16-18; Gal. 3:14, 22; Eph. 1:13-14, 22-23, *2:17-22, 3:6, 4:11-16, 5:30-32; Col. 1:18-27, 2:6-10, 3:15; *1 Thes. 5:9-11; *1 Tim. 3:15; *2 Tim. 1:14; Heb. *3:4-6, 8:2, *9:11-15, *24, 10:21, 36; 1 Pet. 2:4-5; 1 John 4:12-16; Rev. 3:12, 7:15, 11:19, *13:6, *21:3, 22)

2 Cor. 5:2 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) in (en) this (toutō) also (kai) we groan (stenazomen):

we are longing (epipothountes) to be dropped into (ependusasathai) the (to) habit (oikētērion) of us (hēmōn), the one (to) out (ex) of heaven (ouranou).

2 Cor. 5:3 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) if (ei) indeed (ge) having enrobed ourselves in (ei endusamenoi) [the heavenly habit of us, v2, RE], we shall absolutely not be found (ou heurethēsometha) naked (gumnoi)!

2 Cor. 5:4 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) we being (ontes) the ones (hoi) also (kai) in (en) the (tō) tent (skēnei) [upon land, v1, RE], we groan (stenazomen), over (eph') [the sake, AE] for which (ho) we are ones being burdened (baroumenoi).

We absolutely do not desire (ou thelomen) to disrobe out (ekdusasthai) [of it, AE], BUT (all’), to cause ourselves to enrobe in upon (ependusasthai) [the heavenly habit of us, v2, RE], in order that (hina) the (to) death-doomed (thnēton) [house tenting upon land, v1, RE] may be drank down2666 (katapothē) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of the (tēs) life (zōēs)!

2 Cor. 5:5 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the one (ho) having caused himself to work us down (katergasamenos hēmas) into (eis) this (touto) same (auto) [heavenly habit, v2, RE] [is] God (theos), the one (ho) having given (dous) to us (hēmin) the (ton) assurance (arrabōna) of the (tou) Spirit (pneumatos).

2 Cor. 5:6 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), we are ones always being confident (pantote tharrountes), and (kai) ones having seen (eidotes) that (hoti) we are being among our company (endēmountes) in (en) the (tō) body (sōmati), out from our company (ekdēmoumen) [when, AE] away from (apo) the (tou) lord (kuriou).

2 Cor. 5:7 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) we walk around (peripatoumen) through (dia) belief (pisteos), absolutely not (ou) through (dia) sight (eidous)!

2 Cor. 5:8 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) we are confident (tharroumen), and (kai) more (mallon), we well-approve (eudokoumen) to be out from our company (ekdēmēsai), out (ek) of the (tou) body (sōmatos), and (kai) to be among our company (endēmēsai) [who, AE] [are] toward (pros) the (tou) lord (kurion)!

2 Cor. 5:9 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) through which (dio) [belief, v7, RE] we aspire (philotimoumetha) [to be] [toward the lord, v9, RE].

Whether (eite) we are being among our company (endēmountes), whether (eite) we are being out from our company (ekdēmountes), [we are, AE] to be (einai) well agreeable (euarestoi) to him (autō).

2 Cor. 5:10 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) it is required (dei) of the things (tous) of all (pantas) of us (hēmas) to be manifested (phanerōthēnai) in front (emprosthen) of the (tou) step of the tribune968 (bēmatos) of the (tou) Christ (Christou);

in order that (hina) each one (hekastos) may provide for himself (komisētai) the things (ta) for (pros) which (ha) he habitually practiced (epraxen) through (dia) the (tou) body (sōmatos), whether (eite) [things habitually practiced, RE] goodly (agathon), [or, AE] whether (eite) [things habitually practiced, RE] worthlessly (phaulon).

2 Cor. 5:11 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), we having seen (eidotes) the (ton) fear (phobon) of the (tou) lord (kuriou), we persuade (peithomen) mortals (anthrōpous).

But (de) we have been manifested (pephanerōmetha) to God (theō).

But (de) I hope (elpizō) to have been manifested (pephanerōsthai) in (en) to the (tais) consciences (suneidēsesin) of you (humōn) also (kai).

2 Cor. 5:12 (LIT/UBS4) Again (palin), we absolutely do not introduce (ou sunistanomen) ourselves (heautous) to you (humin)

BUT (alla), we are giving (didontes) to you (humin) [an] opportunity (aphormēn) of [a] boast (kauchēmatos) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of us (hēmōn), in order that (hina) you may have (echēte) [[a] boast, RE] toward (pros) the ones (tous) boasting (kauchōmenous) in (en) face (prosōpō) [appearance, AE], and (kai) not (mē) in (en) [the] heart (kardia) [of them, AE]!

(For apostle Paul, Timothy and Silas not introducing themselves, but introducing and preaching the Word of God of God’s love to us, through Jesus Christ, see Rom. 5:8; 2 Cor. 3:1, 4:5, 5:12)

2 Cor. 5:13 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) whether (eite) we were ecstatic (exestēmen) for God (theō), [or, AE] whether (eite) we are whole-thoughted (sōphronoumen) for you (humin),

2 Cor. 5:14 (LIT/UBS4) [it, AE] [is] because (gar) the (hē) love (agapē) of Christ (Christou) holds us together (sunechei hēmas).

We having determined (krinantas) this (touto):

that (hoti) one (heis) died away (apethanen) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of all (pantōn), so (ara) all (pantes) the ones (hoi) died away (apethanon)!

2 Cor. 5:15 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) he died away (apethanen) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of all (pantōn), in order that (hina) the ones (hoi) living (zōntes) may no longer yet live (mēketi zōsin) for themselves (heautois), BUT (alla), for the one (tō) having died away (apothanonti) and (kai) having been awoken (egerthenti) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of them (autōn)!

2 Cor. 5:16 (LIT/UBS4) And so (hōste), from (apo) the (tou) [time, AE] now (nun), we (hēmeis) have seen (oidamen) absolutely not one (oudena) down on account (kata) [of the] flesh (sarka)!

And (kai) if (ei) we have known (egnōkamen) Christ (Christon) down on account (kata) [of the] flesh (sarka), BUT (alla), now (nun) we absolutely no longer yet know (ouketi ginōskomen) [Christ down on account of the flesh, RE]!

2 Cor. 5:17 (LIT/UBS4) And so (hōste) if (ei) anyone (tis) [is] in (en) Christ (Christō) [he, AE] [is] [a] new (kainē) creation (ktisis).

He passed aside (parēlthen) the (ta) first things (archaia).

Behold (idou), he has become (gegonen) [a] new (kaina) [creation, RE]!

2 Cor. 5:18 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) all (panta) of the (ta) [ministries, RE] [are] out (ek) of the (tou) God (theou), of the (tou) [God, RE] having reconciled (katallaxantos) us (hēmas) to himself (heautō) through (dia) Christ (Christou), and (kai) [of the God, RE] having given (dontos) to us (hēmin) the (tēn) Ministry (diakonian) of the (tēs) Reconciliation (katallagēs)

2 Cor. 5:19 (LIT/UBS4) Because (hoti), as (hōs) God (theos) was being (ēn) in (en) Christ (Christos) reconciling (katallassōn) [the] cosmos (kosmon) to himself (heautō), not (mē) causing himself to count3049 (logizomenos) to them (autois) the (ta) side-falls3900 (paraptōmata) of them (autōn), and (kai) [God, RE] having caused himself to put (themenos) in (en) to us (hēmin) the (ton) Word (logon) of Reconciliation (katallagēs),

(For all those who have received a new birth above in God’s promised gift of his paternal holy Spirit (Lev. 26:11-12; John 3:3-8; Acts 1:4; 2 Cor. 6:16-18; *1 Pet. 1:23), and for those paternal sons being taught by God (YHWH) himself, see Isa. 54:13; Jer. 31:31-34; Luke 12:12; John 5:19-20, 6:45, 14:26, 15:26, 16:13-14; 1 Cor. 1:4-8, 2:10, 12:8; 2 Cor. 5:19; Gal. 1:12; Eph. 4:20-21; 1 Thes. 4:9; 2 Tim. 2:7; Heb. 8:8-12, 10:16-17; James 1:5-6; 1 John 2:27, 5:20)

(For God making Jesus Christ his domicile, and he subsequently working IN and THROUGH Jesus Christ as his mortal agent in this cosmos, see *Mat. 9:8; Mark 6:5; Luke 5:17, 7:16; John 3:2, 5:19-20, 8:16, *29, 9:33, *10:38, *14:10-11, *16-20, 28, 16:32b; *Acts 2:22, 10:38; *2 Cor. 5:18-19; Eph. 3:16-19, 4:6; *Col. 1:19-20, 2:9; 1 John 5:20)

2 Cor. 5:20 (LIT/UBS4) therefore (oun), as (hōs) we are elders (presbeuomen) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of Christ (Christos), the (tou) God (theou) is accosting (parakalountos) [you, AE] through (di’) us (hēmōn)!

We cause ourselves to beg (deometha) [you, AE] over (huper) [the sake, AE] of Christ (Christou), be reconciled (katallagēte) to the (tō) God (theō)!

2 Cor. 5:21 (LIT/UBS4) The one (ton) not (mē) having known (gnonta) sin (hamartian) was made (epoiēsen) sin (hamartian) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of us (hēmōn), in order that (hina) we (hēmeis) may cause ourselves to become (genōmetha) [the] righteousness (dikaiosunē) of God (theou) in (en) him (autō)!
