EPHESIANS

Chapter 5

Update: 2024.01.04

Eph. 5:1 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), cause yourselves to become (ginesthe) imitators (mimētai) of the (tou) God (theou), as (hōs) beloved (agapēta) born ones (tekna).

Eph. 5:2 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) walk around (peripateite) in (en) love (agapē), down according to as (kathōs) Christ (Christos) also (kai) loved (ēgapēsen) us (hēmas), and (kai) passed himself aside (paredōken heauton) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of us (hēmōn), [as, AE] [a] presentation (prosphoran) and (kai) [a] sacrifice (thusian) to the (tō) God (theō) of [a] fragrance (osmēn) of [a] good scent (euōdias).

Eph. 5:3 (LIT/UBS4) (LIT/UBS4) But (de) fornication (porneia), and (kai) every (pasa) unclean (akatharsia) or (ē) covetous thing (pleonexia), do not let it be named (mēde onomazesthō) among (en) you (humin), down according to as (kathōs) you are conspicuous (prepei) holy ones (hagiois);

Eph. 5:4 (LIT/UBS4) [do not let be named, v3, RE] [a] shameless thing (aischrotēs), and (kai) [a] moronic thing (mōrologia), or (ē) [a] thing of repartee (eutrapelia) also (kai), which (ha) is absolutely not being upcoming433 (ouk anēken)!

BUT (alla), [be] more (mallon) ones giving thanks (eucharistia)!

Eph. 5:5 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) this (touto) you have seen (iste):

that (hoti) everyone (pas), [a] fornicator (pornos), or (ē) [an] unclean one (akathartos), or (ē) [a] covetous one (pleonektēs), one who (ho) is (estin) [an] idolater (eidōlolatrēs), he absolutely does not hold (ouk echei) [an] inheritance (klēronomian) in (en) the (tē) Kingdom932 (basileia) of the (tou) Christ (Christou), and (kai) of God (theou)!

Eph. 5:6 (LIT/UBS4) <Let> not one (mēdeis) fake (apatatō) you (humas) [with, AE] empty (kenois) words (logois).

Because (gar) through (dia) these things (tauta) the (hē) anger (orgē) of the (tou) God (theou) causes itself to come (erchetai) upon (epi) the (tous) sons (huious) of the (tēs) dissuasion (apeitheias).

Eph. 5:7 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), do not cause yourselves to become (mē ginesthe) partners together with (summetochoi) them (autōn).

Eph. 5:8 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) once (pote) you were being (ēte) darkness (skotos), but (de) now (nun) [you are being, RE] light (phōs) in (en) [the] lord (kuriō).

You walk around (peripateite) as (hōs) ones born (tekna) of light (phōtos).

Eph. 5:9 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (ho) produce (karpos) of the (tou) light (phōtos) [is] in (en) all (pasē) goodness (agathōsunē), and (kai) righteousness (dikaiosunē), and (kai) Truth (alētheia),

Eph. 5:10 (LIT/UBS4) you proving (dokimazontes) what (ti) is (estin) well agreeable (euareston) to the (tō) lord (kuriō).

Eph. 5:11 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) do not fellowship together with (mē sunkoinōneite) the (tois) works (ergois), the (tois) unproductive (akarpois) [works, RE] of the (tou) darkness (skotous).

But (de) more (mallon), reprove (elenchete) [the unproductive works of the darkness, RE] also (kai)!

Eph. 5:12 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the things (ta) being caused to come to pass (ginomena) secretly (kruphē) under (hup’) them (autōn) is (estin) shameful (aischron) to say (legein) also (kai)

(For a believer in his discipleship to Christ Jesus being led to being stripped of the power of holy Spirit through false teaching, see Mat. 15:9; John 8:31-47; Rom. 1:21-22; 2 Cor. 10:5-6; 11:13-15; Eph. 5:6-12; *Col. 2:8; 2 Tim. 3:1-15, 4:3-4; Tit. 1:10-14)

Eph. 5:13 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) all (panta) the ones (ta) being reproved (elenchomena) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of the (tou) light (phōtos), [each one, AE] is manifested (phaneroutai).

Eph. 5:14 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) everyone (pan), the one (to) being manifested (phaneroumenon) is (estin) light (phōs).

Through which (dio) [the prophet, AE] says (legei), “Be awake (egeire), the one (ho) down sleeping (katheudōn), and (kai) stand up (anasta) out (ek) of the (tōn) dead ones (nekrōn), and (kai) the (ho) Christ (Christos) shall shine upon (epiphausei) you (soi).”

(See Isa. 60:1-2)

(For Jesus Christ being prophesied as a great light coming, the one who would shed light on the knowledge of God’s Word for a people being caused to sit down in darkness, see Isa. 9:1-2, 49:1-6; Mat. 4:12-16, 10:26-27; *Mark 4:21-23; Luke 1:76-79, 2:25-32, 8:16-17, 11:33, 12:1-3; John 1:1-14, 3:1-21, 8:12, 9:5, 11:9-10, 12:34-36, 41-46; Acts 13:46-47, 26:22-23; 2 Cor. 4:1-6; Eph. 5:8, 13, 14; Col. 1:12; 1 Thes. 5:5; 1 Pet. 2:9; 2 Pet. 1:19; 1 John 2:8-10.)

Eph. 5:15 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), look at (blepete) how (pōs) exactly (akribōs) you walk around (peripateite);

not (mē) as (hōs) unwise ones (asophoi), BUT (all’), as (hōs) wise ones (sophoi),

Eph. 5:16 (LIT/UBS4) causing yourselves to buy-out1805 (exagorazomenoi) the (ton) time (kairon), because (hoti) the (hai) days (hēmerai) are (eisin) evil (ponērai)!

Eph. 5:17 (LIT/UBS4) Through (dia) [the sake, AE] of this (touto) do not cause yourselves to become (mē ginesthe) mindless ones (aphrones), BUT (alla), put together (suniete) what (ti) [is] the (to) desire (thelēma) of the (tou) Lord (kuriou)!

Eph. 5:18 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) do not be drunk (mē methuskesthe) [with, AE] wine (oinō), in (en) which (hō) is (estin) unwholeness (asōtia), BUT (alla), be filled (plērousthe) in (en) Spirit (pneumati)!;

Eph. 5:19 (LIT/UBS4) speaking (lalountes) to yourselves (heautois) in (en) psalms (psalmois), and (kai) hymns (humnois), and (kai) Spirit-based (pneumatikais) odes (ōdais), singing (adontes) and (kai) playing psalms (psallontes) for the (tē) heart (kardia) of you (humōn), for the (tō) Lord (kuriō);

Eph. 5:20 (LIT/UBS4) you always giving thanks well (eucharistountes pantote) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of all things (pantōn), to the (tō) God (theō) [the] Father (patri), in (en) [the] name (onomati) of the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn) Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou);

Eph. 5:21 (LIT/UBS4) you being put in submission5293 (hupotassomenoi) to one another (allēlois) in (en) fear (phobō) of Christ (Christou);

Eph. 5:22 (LIT/UBS4) the (hai) females (gunaikes) [being put in submission, v21, RE] to the (tois) males (andrasin), to your own (idiois), as (hōs) to the (tō) lord (Kuriō);

Eph. 5:23 (LIT/UBS4) because (hoti) [a] male (anēr) is (estin) head (kephalē) of the (tēs) female (gunaikos), as (hōs) the (ho) Christ (Christos) also (kai) [is] head (kephalē) of the (tēs) assembly (ekklēsias), himself (autos) [a] savior4990 (sōtēr) of the (tou) body (sōmatos).

(Both the God and his son Christ Jesus are referred to as saviors by the apostles. The clear distinction the holy scriptures make between the roles of the two is that the God prepared the plan and the schematic for our salvation (Heb. 3:1-4; Rom. 3:23-25; Eph. 1:7-9; Luke 1:47; 1 Tim. 1:1, 2:3, 4:10; 2 Tim. 1:9; Tit. 1:2-3, 2:10, 3:4; Jude 1:25, Rev. 7:10), while Christ Jesus, who caused himself to follow God’s plan and schematic, caused himself to become God’s enabling one, or instrument of our salvation (Heb. 5:9; Luke 2:11; John 4:42; Acts 5:31, 13:23; Eph. 5:23; Phil. 3:20; 2 Tim. 1:10; Tit. 1:2-4, 2:13, 3:6; 2 Pet. 1:1, 1:11, 2:20, 3:2, 18; 1 John 4:14).

Eph. 5:24 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), as (hōs) the (hē) assembly (ekklēsia) is put in submission5293 (hupotassetai) to the (tō) Christ (Christō), thusly (houtōs) the (hai) females (gunaikes) also (kai) [are put in submission, RE] to the (tois) males (andrasin) [of themselves, AE], in (en) everything (panti)!

Eph. 5:25 (LIT/UBS4) The (hoi) males (andres), love (agapate) the (tas) females (gunaikas) [of yourselves, AE] down according to as (kathōs) the (ho) Christ (Christos) also (kai) loved (ēgapēsen) the (tēn) assembly (ekklēsian), and (kai) passed himself aside (heauton paredōken) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of her (autēs);

Eph. 5:26 (LIT/UBS4) in order that (hina) he may make her holy (hagiasē autēn), the (tō) bath (loutrō) of the (tou) water (hudatos) in (en) [a] statement (rhēmati) having cleansed (katharisas) [her, RE];

(For what is the scriptural definition of the meaning of, “being baptized in the name of…”, compare Mat. 28:19; John 5:37-43, 10:25, 13:6-15; Acts 4:7, 9:17-18, 19:5, 22:16; Rom. 1:1-6; Eph. 5:26; Titus 3:5; Rev. 1:5)

(For each word of God being Spirit and life, see John 6:63)

Eph. 5:27 (LIT/UBS4) in order that (hina) he (autos) may stand alongside (parastēsē) to himself (heatō) the (tēn) assembly (ekklēsian) in glory (endoxon), she having (echousan) no (mē) stain (spilon), or (ē) wrinkle (rhutida), or (ē) any (ti) of the (tōn) like things (toioutōn);

BUT (all), in order that (hina) she may be (ē) [a] holy one (hagia), and (kai) [an] unblemished one (amōmos)!

Eph. 5:28 (LIT/UBS4) Thusly (houtōs) the (hoi) males (andres) also (kai) owe (opheilousin) to love (agapan) the (tas) females (gunaikas) of themselves (heautōn), as (hōs) the bodies (sōmata) of themselves (heautōn)

The one (ho) loving (agapōn) the (tēn) female (gunaika) of himself (heautou) loves (agapa) himself (heauton).

Eph. 5:29 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) absolutely no one (oudeis), in time past (pote), despised (emisēsen) the (tēn) flesh (sarka) of himself (heautou),

BUT (alla), he fattens [her, RE] out (ektrephei) and (kai) warms (thalpei) her (autēn), down according to as (kathōs) the (ho) Christ (Christos) also (kai) [fattens-out and warms, RE] the (tēn) assembly (ekklēsian),

Eph. 5:30 (LIT/UBS4) because (hoti) we are (esmen) members (melē) of the (tou) body (sōmatos) of him (autou)!

Eph. 5:31 (LIT/UBS4) Instead (anti) of this (toutou), [despising the flesh of himself, v29, RE], [a] mortal (anthrōpos) shall leave (kataleipsei) the (ton) father (patera) and (kai) the (tēn) mother (mētera), and (kai) he shall be glued to (proskollēthēsetai) the (tēn) female (gunaika) [of him, v30, RE].

And (kai) the (hoi) two (duo) shall cause themselves to be (esontai) into (eis) one (mian) flesh (sarka).

Eph. 5:32 (LIT/UBS4) This (touto) is (estin) the (to) Great (mega) Mystery (mustērion);

but (de) (egō) speak (legō) into (eis) Christ (Christon) and (kai) into (eis) the (tēn) assembly (ekklēsian).

(For what is God’s prophesied true “tent”, his new holy place under his new covenant, the prophesied promise of the Father to place himself into believers to live in them as his new permanent domicile, a true “tent” not built with mortal’s hands but with his own hand, see Ex. 15:17; 2 Sam. 7:5-16; Isa. 8:14; Ezek. 11:16; Joel 2:28-29; Amos 9:11-12; Mat. 3:11, 16:18, 26:61, 27:39-40; Mark 14:58, 15:29; Luke 3:21-22, 24:49; *John 2:19-22, 3:1-, 4:20-24, 7:37-39, 14:2, *23; Acts 1:4-5, 2:16-18, 33, 38-39, *7:44-50, *15:16-18, *17:24, *20:28; *Rom. 8:9-11, 12:4-5; 1 Cor. *3:16-17, *6:19-20, 10:16-17, 12:12-28; *2 Cor. 5:1, *6:16-18; Gal. 3:14, 22; Eph. 1:13-14, 22-23, *2:17-22, 3:6, 4:11-16, 5:30-32; Col. 1:18-27, 2:6-10, 3:15; *1 Thes. 5:9-11; *1 Tim. 3:15; *2 Tim. 1:14; Heb. *3:4-6, 8:2, *9:11-15, *24, 10:21, 36; 1 Pet. 2:4-5; 1 John 4:12-16; Rev. 3:12, 7:15, 11:19, *13:6, *21:3, 22)

Eph. 5:33 (LIT/UBS4) Moreover (plēn) you (humeis) also (kai), down through (kath’) each (hekastos) one (hena) of the ones (hoi), [do, AE] thusly (houtōs), love (agapatō) the female (gunaika) of himself (heautou) as (hōs) himself (heauton);

but (de) the (hē) female (gune) [do thusly, AE], in order that (hina) she may fear (phobetai) the (ton) male (andra) [of her, AE].
