GALATIANS

Chapter 2

Update:  2022.01.02

Gal. 2:1 (LIT/UBS4) Thereupon (epeita) through (dia) fourteen (dekatessarōn) years (etōn), again (palin) I went up (anebēn) into (eis) Jerusalem (Hierosoluma), together with (meta) Barnabas (Barnaba), having taken together with (sumparalabōn) [us, AE] Titus (Titon).

Gal. 2:2 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I went up (anebēn) down on account (kata) of [a] revelation (apokalupsin)!

And (kai) I caused myself to put up (anethemēn) for them (autois) the (to) Evangelism (euangelion) which (ho) I preach (kērussō) among (en) the (tois) ethnic groups (ethnesin), but (de) for those ones (tois) down on (kat’) [their, AE] own (idian);

concluding (dokousin) [that, AE] somehow (pōs) I may not run (mē trechō), or (ē) I did [not, RE] run (edramon), into (eis) emptiness (kenon).

(For apostle Paul, and other apostles, receiving revelation from Christ Jesus for much of what they preached and taught, see Luke 2:32; Rom. 16:25-27; 1 Cor. 1:4-8; 2 Cor. 12:1; Gal. 1:12, 2:1-2; Eph. 3:3; 1 Pet. 1:13; Rev. 1:1-2.)

Gal. 2:3 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (all’), Titus (Titos), the one (ho) with (sun) me (emoi), he being (ōn) [a] Hellene (Hellēn), he was but absolutely not constrained (oude ēnankasthē) to be circumcised (peritmēthēnai)!

Gal. 2:4 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) [he was approached, AE] through (dia) the (tous) false brothers (pseudadelphous), ones who (hoitines) [are] seditious ones (pareisaktous), to scope down (kataskapēsai) the (tēn) freedom (eleutherian) of us (hēmōn) which (hēn) we have (echomen) in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou), in order that (hina) they shall bring down slavery (katadoulōsousin) [upon, AE] us (hēmas);

Gal. 2:5 (LIT/UBS4) to whom (hois) but absolutely not were we weak (oude eixamen) toward (pros) [an] hour (hōran), [in, AE] submission (hupotagē) to the (tē) [slavery, v4, RE];

in order that (hina) the (hē) Truth (alētheia) of the (tou) Evangelism (euangeliou) may thoroughly stay (diameinē) toward (pros) you (humas)!

Gal. 2:6 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) from (apo) the ones (tōn) concluding (dokountōn) to be (einai) something (ti), of what sort (hopoioi) they were being (ēsan) in time past (pote), bears through1308 (diapherei) absolutely not one thing (ouden) to me (moi)!

The (ho) God (theos) absolutely does not receive (ou lambanei) [the] face (prosōpon) [value, AE] of [a] mortal (anthrōpou)!

Because (gar) to me (emoi), the ones (hoi) concluding (dokountes) [to be something, RE], they caused themselves to lay up for themselves (prosanethento) absolutely not one thing (ouden)!

Gal. 2:7 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), on the contrary (tounantion), (they having seen (idontes) that (hoti) I have been caused to believe (pepisteumai) [into, AE] the (to) Evangelism (euangelion) of the (tēs) prepuced one (akrobustias), down according as to (kathōs) Peter (Petros) [into, AE] the (tēs) circumcision (peritomēs)),

Gal. 2:8 (LIT/UBS4) because (gar) the one (ho) having energized (energēsas) Peter (Petrō) into (eis) [an] apostleship (apostollēn) of the (tēs) circumcision (peritomēs), he energized (enērgēsen) me (emoi) also (kai) into (eis) [[an] apostleship, RE] of the (ta) ethnic groups (ethnē),

Gal. 2:9 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) they having known (gnontes) the (tēn) grace (charin), the (tēn) [grace, RE] having been given (dotheisan) to me (emoi),

James (Iakōbos), and (kai) Cephas (Kēphas), and (kai) John (Iōannēs), the ones (hoi) concluding (dokountes) to be (einai) pillars (stuloi), they gave (edōkan) to me (emoi) and (kai) Barnabas (Barnaba) [the] right (dexias) [hand, AE] of fellowship (koinōnias);

in order that (hina) we (hēneis) [may go, AE] into (eis) the (ta) ethnic groups (ethnē), but (de) they (autoi) [may go, AE] into (eis) the (tēn) circumcision (peritomēn);

Gal. 2:10 (LIT/UBS4) in order that (hina) we may remember (mnēmoneuōmen) only (monon) the (tōn) poor ones (ptōchōn), of which (ho) thing (touto) I made haste (espoudasa) also (kai) to do (poiēsai) it (auto)!

(For who was to receive the collections, the gracious abundant sharings, like the collections from the believers in the area of Corinth, see what Christ Jesus and the apostles taught and preached, Mat. 19:20-21, 26:6-13; Mark 10:20-21, 14:3-9; Luke 4:18-19, *14:12-14, 21-22, 18:22, 19:8; John 12:3-8, 13:28-29; Acts 2:44-47; Rom. 15:26; 1 Cor. 13:3, 16:1-2; 2 Cor. 6:10, 8:9, 9:9; Gal. 2:10. )

Gal. 2:11 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) when (hote) Cephas (Kēphas) came (ēlthen) into (eis) Antioch (Antiocheian) I stood opposed (antestēn) down (kata) to his (autō) face (prosōpon), because (hoti) he was being (ēn) one having been denounced (kategnōsmenos)!

Gal. 2:12 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) before (pro), of the (tou) certain ones (tinas) to come (elthein) from (apo) James (Iakōbou), he was eating together (sunēsthien) with (meta) the (tōn) ethnic groups (ethnōn).

But (de) when (hote) they came (ēlthon), he was being misarranged (hupestellen), and (kai) he was segregating (aphōrizen) himself (heauton), causing himself to be in fear (phoboumenos) of the ones (tous) out (ek) of circumcision (peritomēs)!

Gal. 2:13 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) the (hoi) remaining (loipoi) Judeans (Ioudaioi) also (kai) were caused to judge down together with (sunupekrithēsan) him (autō) [the ethnic groups, v12, RE], and so (hōste) Barnabas (Barnabas) also (kai) was led away with (sunapēchthē) the (tē) acting (hupokrisei) of them (autōn).

Gal. 2:14 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (all’), when (hote) I saw (eidon) that (hoti) they absolutely did not walk straightly (ouk orthopodousin) toward (pros) the (tēn) Truth (alētheian) of the (tou) Evangelism (euangeliou), I enunciated (eipon) to the (tō) Cephas (Kēpha) in front (emprosthen) of all (pantōn):

“If (ei) you (su), being one under control (huparchōn), [a] Judean (Ioudaios), live (zēs) ethnically (ethnikōs) and (kai) absolutely not (ouchi) Judaically (Ioudaikōs), how (pōs) can you constrain (anankazeis) the (ta) ethnic groups (ethnē) to live Judaically (Ioudaizein)!?"

Gal. 2:15 (LIT/UBS4) We (hēmeis) [are] Judeans (Ioudaioi) by nature (phusei), and (kai) absolutely not (ouk) out (ek) of sinful ones (hamartōloi) of ethnic groups (ethnōn)!

Gal. 2:16 But (de) we having seen (eidotes) that (hoti) [a] mortal (anthrōpos) is absolutely not made righteous (ou dikaioutai) out (ex) of works (ergōn) of law (nomou), if perhaps (ean) not (mē) through (dia) belief (pisteōs) of Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou)!?

And (kai) we (hēmeis) believed (episteusamen) into (eis) Christ (Christon) Jesus (Iēsoun), in order that (hina) we may be made righteous (dikaiōthōmen) out (ek) of belief (pisteōs) of Christ (Christou), and (kai) absolutely not (ouk) out (ex) of works (ergōn) of law (nomou)!

Because (hoti) out (ex) of works (ergōn) of law (nomou) all (pasa) flesh (sarx) shall absolutely not be made righteous (ou dikaiōthēsetai)!

Gal. 2:17 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) [while, AE] we are searching (zētountes) to be made righteous (dikaiōthēnai) in (en) Christ (Christō) we ourselves (autoi) also (kai) were found (heurethēmen) [to be] sinful ones (hamartōloi), then (ara) [is] Christ (Christos) [a] minister (diakonos) of sin (hamartias)?

May it not cause itself to come to pass (mē genoito)!

Gal. 2:18 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) if (ei) [the] things which (ha) I brought down (katelusa), these things (tauta) I build [into, AE] [a] domed-roof house3618 (oikodomō) again (palin), do I stand myself together with (emauton sunistanō) [a] side-stepper (parabatēn)?

Gal. 2:19 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) I (egō), through (dia) law (nomou), died away (apethanon) to law (nomō), in order that (hina) I may live (zēsō) for God (theō)

I have been staked together with (sunestaurōmai) Christ (Christō)!

Gal. 2:20 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I (egō) absolutely no longer yet (ouketi) live (zō)!

But (de) Christ (Christos) lives (zē) in (en) me (emoi).

But (de) [the] flesh (sarki) in (en) which (ho) I now (nun) live (zō), I live (zō) [in, RE] [it, AE] in (en) belief (pistei), [in, RE] the (tē) [belief, RE] of the (tou) Son (huiou) of the (tou) God (theou), of the one (tou) having loved (agapēsantos) me (me) and (kai) having passed himself aside (paradontos heauton) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of me (emou).

(For the God, under his new covenant, being IN believers, and he working IN and THROUGH them, see Lev. 26:11-12; Ezek. 11:19-20, 36:25-27; Mat. 13:33; Luke 17:20-21; John 3:3-8, 14:20-21, 26, 17:14-21; Rom. 8:8-11; 1 Cor. 3:16-17, 6:19-20; 2 Cor. 4:3-7, 6:14-7:1, 13:3-5, 14; Gal. 1:15-16, 2:20, 4:18-19; Eph. 2:17-22, 3:14-19; Col. 1:27; 2 Tim. 1:14; Heb. 3:6, 13:20-21; 1 John 3:23-24, 4:7-8, 15-16)

Gal. 2:21 (LIT/UBS4) I absolutely do not (ouk) displace (athetō) the (tēn) grace (charin) of the (tou) God (theou)!

Because (gar) if (ei) righteousness (dikaiosunē) [is] through (dia) law (nomou), then (ara) Christ (Christos) died away (apethanen) gratuitously (dōrean)?
