Chapter 14

Update:  2024.03.03

John 14:1 (LIT/UBS4) <Do not let> the (hē) heart (kardia) of you (humōn)be troubled (mē tarassesthō).

Believe (pisteuete) into (eis) the (ton) God (theon), and (kai) believe (pisteuete) into (eis) me (eme).

John 14:2 (LIT/UBS4) In (en) the (tē) house (oikia) of the (tou) Father (patros) of me (mou) there are (eisin) many (pollai) places to stay (monai)

But (de) if (ei) not (mē), perhaps (an) I enunciated (eipon) to you (humin) that (hoti) I cause myself to go (poreuomai) to make ready (hetoimasai) [a] place (topon) for you (humin)!

(For what is God’s prophesied true “tent”, his new holy place under his new covenant, the prophesied promise of the Father to place himself into believers to live in them as his new permanent domicile, a true “tent” not built with mortal’s hands but with his own hand, see Ex. 15:17; 2 Sam. 7:5-16; Isa. 8:14; Ezek. 11:16; Joel 2:28-29; Amos 9:11-12; Mat. 3:11, 16:18, 26:61, 27:39-40; Mark 14:58, 15:29; Luke 3:21-22, 24:49; *John 2:19-22, 3:1-, 4:20-24, 7:37-39, 14:2, *23; Acts 1:4-5, 2:16-18, 33, 38-39, *7:44-50, *15:16-18, *17:24, *20:28; *Rom. 8:9-11, 12:4-5; 1 Cor. *3:16-17, *6:19-20, 10:16-17, 12:12-28; *2 Cor. 5:1, *6:16-18; Gal. 3:14, 22; Eph. 1:13-14, 22-23, *2:17-22, 3:6, 4:11-16, 5:30-32; Col. 1:18-27, 2:6-10, 3:15; *1 Thes. 5:9-11; *1 Tim. 3:15; *2 Tim. 1:14; Heb. *3:4-6, 8:2, *9:11-15, *24, 10:21, 36; 1 Pet. 2:4-5; 1 John 4:12-16; Rev. 3:12, 7:15, 11:19, *13:6, *21:3, 22)

John 14:3 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) if perhaps (ean) I may be caused to go (poreuthō), and (kai) I may make ready (hetoimasō) [a] place (topon) for you (humin), I am caused to come (erchomai) again (palin)!

And (kai) I shall take you alongside (paralēmpsomai humas) to (pros) myself (emauton), in order that (hina) where (hopou) I (egō) am (eimi) you (humeis) also (kai) may be (ēte) [there, AE].

John 14:4 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) of where (hopou) I (egō) get underway (hupagō), you have seen (oidate) the (tēn) way (hodon)."

John 14:5 (LIT/UBS4) Thomas (Thōmas) says (legei) to him (autō), “Lord (kurie), we have absolutely not seen (ouk oidamen) of where (pou) you get underway (hupageis)

How (pōs) can we inherently power ourselves (dunametha) to have seen (eidenai) the (tēn) way (hodon)?”

John 14:6 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) says (legei) to him (auto), “I (ego) am (eimi) the (hē) Way (hodos), and (kai) the (hē) Truth (aletheia), and (kai) the (hē) Life (zoe)

Absolutely not one (oudeis) causes himself to come (erchetai) to (pros) the (ton) Father (patera), if (ei) not (mē) through (di’) me (emou)!

(See John 6:44)

(In Rom. 2:4 apostle Paul says that the wealth of God’s benevolence, self-restraint and patience toward an unbeliever leads him into repentance to God.  In Acts 20:21 disciple Luke records Paul stating that repentance is to be to God, and then they are to believe the Evangelism of Jesus Christ. In Acts 11:6 disciple Luke records apostle Peter stating that it is God who grants repentance into life. In 2 Tim. 2:25 apostle Paul states also that it is God who grants repentance, but here into experiential knowledge of Truth. In John 6:44 Jesus states that those who have repented to his heavenly Father are then sent to him, Christ Jesus, to believe in his Evangelism. In John 14:6 apostle John records Jesus Christ stating that those who have believed his Evangelism are then sent back to his heavenly Father, presumably now as sons of God. Jesus Christ having baptized them in God’s gift of his paternal holy Spirit (Mat. 3:11), the believing disciples, now as sons of God, now have the ability to approach the God, who is now their heavenly Father (Eph. 2:17, 3:11).

In Summary: In Rom. 2:4 God draws unbelievers to himself to grant them repentance.  In John 6:44 then God sends them to his son to learn discipleship, to hear and believe Jesus' Evangelism. Then in John 14:6 Jesus Christ sends them back to his heavenly Father presumably as newborn sons of God, they having received a new birth above in God’s gift of his paternal holy Spirit, to now be taught of God and to learn sonship.  Jesus Christ, their brother, teaches believers discipleship.  God, their heavenly Father, teaches them sonship.)

John 14:7 (LIT/UBS4) If (ei) you have known (egnōkate) me (me), you shall cause yourselves to know (gnōsesthe) the (ton) Father (patera) also (kai) of me (mou).

And (kai) from (ap’) this time (arti) you know (ginōskete) him (auton), and (kai) you have gazed at (heōrakate) him (auton).”

John 14:8 (LIT/UBS4) Philip (Philippos) says (legei) to him (autō), “Lord (kurie), thoroughly show (deixon) the (ton) Father (patera) to us (hēmin), and (kai) it satisfies (arkei) us (hēmin).”

John 14:9 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) says (legei) to him (autō), 'I am (eimi) with (meth’) you (humōn) so much (tosoutō) time (chronō), and (kai) you have absolutely not known (ouk egnōkas) me (me), Philip (Philippe)!?'

The one (ho) having gazed at (heōrakōs) me (eme) has gazed at (heōraken) the (ton) Father (patera)

How (pōs) do you (su) say (legeis), ‘Thoroughly show (deixon) to us (hēmin) the (ton) Father (patera)?’

John 14:10 (LIT/UBS4) Do you absolutely not believe (ou pisteueis) that (hoti) I (egō) [am] in (en) the (tō) Father (patri), and (kai) the (ho) Father (patēr) is (estin) in (en) me (emoi)!?

The (ta) statements (rhēmata) which (ha) I (egō) speak (legō) to you (humin) I speak (legō) absolutely not (ou) from (ap’) myself (emautou), but (de) the (ho) Father (patēr) staying (menōn) in (en) me (emoi), he does (poiei) the (ta) works (erga) of him (autou)!

John 14:11 (LIT/UBS4) Do you believe (pisteuete) me (moi) that (hoti) I (egō) [am] in (en) the (tō) Father (patri), and (kai) the (ho) Father (patēr) [is] in (en) me (emoi)?

(For who has gazed at, and who has not gazed at, the God the Father, see John 1:18, 5:37, 6:46, 14:7-11, 15:23-25, 20:28-29; 1 John 1:3, 4:20-21; 3 John 1:11)

(For God making Jesus Christ his domicile, and he subsequently working IN and THROUGH Jesus Christ as his mortal agent in this cosmos, see *Mat. 9:8; Mark 6:5; Luke 5:17, 7:16; John 3:2, 5:19-20, 8:16, *29, 9:33, *10:38, *14:10-11, *16-20, 28, 16:32b; *Acts 2:22, 10:38; *2 Cor. 5:18-19; Eph. 3:16-19, 4:6; *Col. 1:19-20, 2:9; 1 John 5:20)

But (de) if (ei) not (mē), believe (pisteuete) through (dia) the (ta) works (erga) themselves (auta)!

John 14:12 (LIT/UBS4) Truly (amēn), truly (amēn) I say (legō) to you (humin), the one (ho) believing (pisteuōn) into (eis) me (eme), the (ta) works (erga) which (ha) I (egō) do (poiō), that one also (kakeinos) shall do (poiēsei) [the works which I do, RE], and (kai) he shall do (poiēsei) greater (meizona) [works, RE] [than, AE] these (toutōn);

because (hoti) I (egō) cause myself to go (poreuomai) to (pros) the (ton) Father (patera)!

John 14:13 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) whatever (ho), perhaps (an) anything (ti), you may request (aitēsēte) in (en) the (tō) name (onomati) of me (mou), this (touto) I shall do (poiēsō), in order that (hina) the (ho) Father (patēr) may be glorified (doxasthē) in (en) the (tō) son (huiō).

John 14:14 (LIT/UBS4) If perhaps (ean) you may request (aitēsēte) anything (ti) of me (me), in (en) the (tō) name (onomati) of me (mou), I (egō) shall do (poiēsō) [your request, v13, RE].

John 14:15 (LIT/UBS4) If perhaps (ean) you may love (agapate) me (me), you shall watchfully keep (tērēsete) the (tas) injunctions (entolas), the ones (tas) mine (emas).

John 14:16 (LIT/UBS4) And I (kagō) shall inquire (erōtēsō) of the (ton) Father (patera), and (kai) he shall give (dōsei) to you (humin) another (allon) Paraclete (paraclēton), in order that (hina) it may be (ē) with (meth) you (humōn) into (eis) the (ton) age (aiōna);

John 14:17 (LIT/UBS4) the (to) Spirit (pneuma) of the (tēs) Truth (alētheias), which (ho) the (ho) cosmos (kosmos) can absolutely not inherently power itself (ou dunatai) to receive (labein)!

Because (hoti) [the cosmos, RE] absolutely does not observe (ou theōrei) him (auto), it but absolutely does not know (oude ginōskei) [him, RE]!

You (humeis) know (ginōskete) him (auto) because (hoti) he stays (menei) alongside (par’) to you (humin), and (kai) he shall cause himself to be (estai) in (en) you (humin).

(This is a prophecy of Jesus, of the coming new birth above in his Father's gift of his paternal holy Spirit, which shall be placed within those who believe upon the name of his firstborn son, Jesus!)

John 14:18 (LIT/UBS4) I shall absolutely not let you go (ouk aphēsō humas) [to be] orphans (orphanous)!

I cause myself to come (erchomai) to (pros) you (humas).

John 14:19 (LIT/UBS4) Yet (eti) [a] micron (micron) [of time, AE] and (kai) the (ho) cosmos (kosmos) observes (theōrei) me (me) yet absolutely no longer (ouketi)

But (de) you (humeis) observe (theōreite) me (me)

Because (hoti) I (egō) live (zō), you (humeis) shall live (zēsete) also (kai).

John 14:20 (LIT/UBS4) In (en) the (tē) day (hēmera) of that (ekeinē) you (humeis) shall cause yourselves to know (gnōsesthe) that (hoti) I (egō) [am] in (en) the (tō) Father (patri) of me (mou), and (kai) you (humeis) [are] in (en) me (emoi), and I (kagō) [am] in (en) you (humin).

John 14:21 (LIT/UBS4) The one (ho) holding (echōn) the (tas) injunctions (entolas) of me (mou), and (kai) watchfully keeping (tērōn) them (autas), that one (ekeinos) is (estin) the one (ho) loving (agapōn) me (me).

But (de) the one (ho) loving (agapōn) me (me) shall be loved (agapēthēsetai) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of the (tou) Father (patros) of me (mou).

And I (kagō) shall love (agapēsō) him (auton), and (kai) I shall manifest myself in (emphanisō emauton) to him (autō).”

(For the God, under his new covenant, being IN believers, and he working IN and THROUGH them, see Lev. 26:11-12; Ezek. 11:19-20, 36:25-27; Mat. 13:33; Luke 17:20-21; John 3:3-8, 14:20-21, 26, 17:14-21; Rom. 8:8-11; 1 Cor. 3:16-17, 6:19-20; 2 Cor. 4:3-7, 6:14-7:1, 13:3-5, 14; Gal. 1:15-16, 2:20, 4:18-19; Eph. 2:17-22, 3:14-19; Col. 1:27; 2 Tim. 1:14; Heb. 3:6, 13:20-21; 1 John 3:23-24, 4:7-8, 15-16)

(For placing yourself under whose authority, see John 14:20-21; Acts 26:18; Rom. 13:1-2)

John 14:22 (LIT/UBS4) Judas (Ioudas), absolutely not (ouch) the (ho) Iscariot one (Iskariōtēs), says (legei) to him (autō), “Lord (kurie), and (kai) what (ti) has come to pass (gegonen) that (hoti) you are about (melleis) to manifest yourself in (emphanizein seauton) to us (hēmin), and (kai) absolutely not (ouchi) to the (tō) cosmos (kosmō)!?”

John 14:23 (LIT/UBS4) Jesus (Iēsous) was caused to make [a] decision (apekrithē), and (kai) he enunciated (eipen) to him (autō), “If perhaps (ean) anyone (tis) may love (agapa) me (me), and (kai) shall watchfully keep (tērēsei) the (ton) Word (logon) of me (mou), the (ho) Father (patēr) of me (mou) shall love (agapēsei) him (auton).

And (kai) we shall cause ourselves to come (eleusometha) to (pros) him (auton), and (kai) we shall cause ourselves to make (poiēsometha) [a] place of stay (monēn) alongside (par’) to him (autō).

John 14:24 (LIT/UBS4) The one (ho) not (mē) loving (agapōn) me (me) absolutely does not keep watch (ou tērei) of the (tous) Words (logous) of me (mou)!

And (kai) the (ho) Word (logos) which (hon) you hear (akouete) is (estin) absolutely not (ouk) mine (emos), BUT (alla), of the (tou) Father (patros) having sent (pempsantos) me (me)!

John 14:25 (LIT/UBS4) These things (tauta) I have spoken (lelalēka) to you (humin), staying (menōn) alongside (par’) to you (humin).

John 14:26 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) Paraclete (paraklētos), the (to) Spirit (pneuma), the (to) holy one (hagion) which (ho) the (ho) Father (patēr) shall send (pempsei) in (en) the (tō) name (onomati) of me (mou), that one (ekeinos) shall teach (didaxei) you (humas) all things (panta), and (kai) it shall bring under remembrance (hupomnēsei) all things (panta) which (ha) I (egō) enunciated (eipon) to you (humin).

(For all those who have received a new birth above in God’s promised gift of his paternal holy Spirit (Lev. 26:11-12; John 3:3-8; Acts 1:4; 2 Cor. 6:16-18; *1 Pet. 1:23), and for those paternal sons being taught by God (YHWH) himself, see Isa. 54:13; Jer. 31:31-34; Luke 12:12; John 5:19-20, 6:45, 14:26, 15:26, 16:13-14; 1 Cor. 1:4-8, 2:10, 12:8; 2 Cor. 5:19; Gal. 1:12; Eph. 4:20-21; 1 Thes. 4:9; 2 Tim. 2:7; Heb. 8:8-12, 10:16-17; James 1:5-6; 1 John 2:27, 5:20)

John 14:27 (LIT/UBS4) Peace (eirēnēn) I let go (aphiēmi) to you (humin).

The (tēn) peace (eirēnēn) of me (emēn) I give (didōmi) to you (humin).

Absolutely not (ou) down according to as (kathōs) the (ho) cosmos (kosmos) gives (didōsin) [peace, RE], <do> I (egō) give (didōmi) [peace, RE] to you (humin)!

<Do not let> the (hē) heart (kardia) of you (humōn) be troubled (mē tarassesthō).

But be not (mēde) cowardly (deiliatō).

John 14:28 (LIT/UBS4) You heard (ēkousate) that (hoti) I (egō) enunciated (eipon) to you (humin), ‘I get underway (hupagō), and (kai) I cause myself to come (erchomai) to (pros) you (humas).’

If (ei) you were loving (ēgapate) me (me) perhaps (an) you would have been caused to rejoice (echarēte) because (hoti) I cause myself to go (poreuomai) to (pros) the (ton) Father (patera);

because (hoti) the (ho) Father (patēr) is (estin) [a] greater one than (meizōn) me (mou).

1John 4:29 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) now (nun) I have stated (eirēka) [my getting underway to the Father, v12, 28, RE] to you (humin) before (prin) [my getting underway, v12, 28, RE] [is] to cause itself to come to pass (genesthai), in order that (hina) perhaps when (hotan) it may cause itself to come to pass (genētai) you may believe (pisteusēte).

John 14:30 (LIT/UBS4) Absolutely no longer yet (ouketi) shall I speak (lalēsō) many (polla) [Words, v24, RE] with (meth’) you (humōn)!

Because (gar) the (ho) chief one758 (archōn) of the (tou) cosmos (kosmou) causes himself to come (erchetai), and (kai) he absolutely does not hold (ouk echei) absolutely not one (ouden) [Word, v24, RE] in (en) me (emoi)!

John 14:31 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (all’), in order that (hina) the (ho) cosmos (kosmos) may know (gnō) that (hoti) I love (agapō) the (ton) Father (patera), and (kai) down according to as (kathōs) the (ho) Father (patēr) caused himself to give [an] injunction (eneteilato) to me (moi), thusly (houtōs) I do (poiō) [speak, v30, RE]!

Be awakened (egeiresthe), may we be led (agōmen) from here (enteuthen).”
