PHILIPPIANS
Chapter 3
Update: 20200427
Phil. 3:1 (LIT/UBS4) Of the (to) remaining (loipon) brothers (adelphoi) of me (mou), rejoice (chairete) in (en) [the] lord (kuriō).
To write (graphein) to you (humin) the (ta) same things (auta) [is] truly (men) absolutely not (ouk) [a] slow thing (oknēron) for me (emoi), but (de) for you (humin) [it, AE] [is] [a] secure thing (asphales)!
Phil. 3:2 (LIT/UBS4) Look [out, AE] (blepete) for the (tous) dogs (kunas)!
Look [out, AE] (blepete) for the (tous) malicious (kakous) workers (ergatas)!
Look [out, AE] (blepete) for the (tēn) cut-down (katatomēn)!
Phil. 3:3 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) we (hēmeis) are (esmen) the (hē) circumcision (peritomē), the ones (hoi) serving (latreuontes) [in, AE] Spirit (pneumati) of God (theou), and (kai) ones causing ourselves to boast (kauchōmenoi) in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou);
and (kai) we have absolutely not been persuaded (ouk pepoithotes) in (en) flesh (sarki)!
Phil. 3:4 (LIT/UBS4) And so be it (kaiper), I (egō) am having (echōn) daring (pepoithēsin) in (en) [the] flesh (sarki) also (kai).
If (ei) any (tis) other one (allos) concludes (dokei) to have been persuaded (pepoithenai) in (en) flesh (satki), I (egō) [have been persuaded, RE] more (mallon).
Phil. 3:5 (LIT/UBS4) For circumcision (peritomē), [I, v4, ER] [was] [an] eighth day one (oktaēmeros), out (ek) of [the] genus (genous) of Israel (Israēl), tribe (phulēs) of Benjamin (Beniamin), [a] Hebrew (Hebraios) out (ex) of Hebrews (Hebraiōn).
Down according to (kata) law (nomon), [I, v4, ER] [was] [a] Pharisee (pharisaios).
(For the twelfth tribe, Benjamin, being apostle Paul’s tribe, see Acts 26:7; Rom. 11:1; Phil. 3:5)
Phil. 3:6 (LIT/UBS4) Down according to (kata) zeal (zēlos), [I, v4, ER] [was] one pursuing (diōkōn) the (tēn) assembly (ekklēsian).
Down according to (kata) righteousness (dikaiosunēn), [I, v4, ER] [was] of the (tēn) [righteousness, RE] in (en) [the] law (nomō), I having caused myself to become (genomenos) [a] faultless one (amemptos).
Phil. 3:7 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), which things (hatina) were being (ēn) gains (kerdē) to me (moi), I have been led (hēgēmai) to these things (tauta) through (dia) [the] loss (zēmian) of the (ton) Christ (Christon)!
Phil. 3:8 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), truly therefore (menounge), I am led (hēgoumai) to be (einai) at [a] loss (zēmian) of all things (panta) also (kai), through (dia) the (to) holding superior (huperechon) of the (tēs) knowledge (gnōseōs) of Christ (Christou) Jesus (Iēsou), the (tou) lord (kuriou) of me (mou);
through (di’) [the sake, AE] of whom (hon) I have been forfeited (ezēmiōthen) of all (panta) things (ta);
and (kai) I am led (hēgoumai) [to be] dog food (skubala), in order that (hina) I may gain (kerdēsō) Christ (Christon);
Phil. 3:9 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) I may be found (heurethō) in (en) him (autō), not (mē) holding (echōn) my (emēn) righteousness (dikaiosunēn), the one (tēn) out (ek) of law (nomou), BUT (alla), the one (tēn) through (dia) belief (pisteōs) of Christ (Christou), the (tēn) righteousness (dikaiosunēn) out (ek) of God (theou), over (epi) the (tē) belief (pistei) [of him, AE]!;
Phil. 3:10 (LIT/UBS4) the (tou) [knowledge, v8, RE] to know (gnōnai) him (auton), and (kai) the (tēn) inherently powered work (dunamin) of the (tēs) standing up (anastaseōs) [out of the dead ones, AE] of him (autou), and (kai) the (tēn) fellowship (koinōnian) of the (tōn) sufferings (pathēmatōn) of him (autou), being formed together with (summorphizomenos) the (tō) death (thanatō) of him (autou);
Phil. 3:11 (LIT/UBS4) if (ei) somehow (pōs) I may come down (katantēsō) into (eis) the (tēn) standing up out (exanastasin) out (ek) of the (tēn) of dead ones (nekrōn)!
Phil. 3:12 (LIT/UBS4) [I speak, AE] absolutely not (ouch) that (hoti) I already received (ēdē elabon) [[the] knowledge, v8, RE], or (ē) I have already been made complete (ēdē teteleiōmai), but (de) I pursue (diōkō) [[the] knowledge, v8, RE] if (ei) I may receive (kai katalabō) [it, AE] also (kai), over (eph') [the sake, AE] for which (hō) I have been received (katelēmphthēn) also (kai), under (hupo) [authority, AE] of Christ (Christou) Jesus (Iēsou)!
Phil. 3:13 (LIT/UBS4) I (egō) myself (emauton), brothers (adelphoi), am absolutely not caused to count myself (logizomai) to have received (kateilēphenai) [the knowledge, v8, RE]!
But (de) one thing (hen) (I have received, RE], truly (men), I am causing myself to be forgetful over (epilanthanomenos) [the knowledge, v8, RE] of the things (ta) behind (opisō) [me, AE]!
But (de) I am causing myself to reach out over (epekteinomenos) [the knowledge, v8, RE] of the things (tois) in front (emprosthen) [of me, AE]!
Phil. 3:14 (LIT/UBS4) Down according to (kata) [a] scope (skopon) I pursue (diōkō) up high (anō), into (eis) the (to) umpire's award (brabeion) of the (tēs) calling (klēseōs) of the (tou) God (theou), in (en) to Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou).
Phil. 3:15 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), as many as (hosoi) [pursue, v12, 14, RE] [being] complete ones (teleioi), may we think (phronōmen) this (touto).
And (kai) if (ei) you think (phroneite) another (heterōs) thing (ti), the (ho) God (theos) also (kai) shall reveal (apokalupsei) this (touto) to you (humin).
Phil. 3:16 (LIT/UBS4) Moreover (plēn), we came sooner (ephthasamen) into (eis) [the calling, v14], the (tō) same (autō) [calling, v14] [into, RE] which (ho) we are to walk in line (stoichein).
Phil. 3:17 (LIT/UBS4) Cause yourselves to become (ginesthe) imitators together (summimētai) of me (mou), brothers (adelphoi), and (kai) scope in on (skopeite) the ones (tous) walking around (peripatountas) thusly (houtō), down according to as (kathōs) you have (echete) [a] type5179 (tupon) of us (hēmas).
Phil. 3:18 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) many (polloi) [malicious workers, v2, RE] walk around (peripatousin) of whom (hous) I was saying (elegon) to you (humin) many times (pollakis).
But (de) now (nun), weeping (klaiōn) also (kai), I say (legō) those ones (tous) [are] hated ones (echthrous) of the (tou) stake (staurou) of the (tou) Christ (Christou);
Phil. 3:19 (LIT/UBS4) the (to) completion (telos) of whom (hōn) [is] destruction (apōleia);
the (ho) god (theos) of whom (hōn) [is] the (hē) belly (koilia);
and (kai) the (hē) glory (doxa) [of whom, RE] [is] in (en) the (tē) shame (aischunē) of them (autōn), the ones (hoi) thinking (phronountes) of the (ta) things upon land (epigeia).
(For ones whose god is their belly, see John 6:25-64; Phil. 3:18-19)
(For which thoughts we are to disciple ourselves to think, see Rom. 8:5-8, 12:2-3, 15-19, 14:4-9, 15:4-7; 1 Cor. 13:11, 14:20; 2 Cor. 13:11; Gal. 5:7-10; Phil. 1:3-7, 2:1-11, 3:8-19; Col. 3:1-15)
Phil. 3:20 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (to) citizenship (politeuma) of us (hēmōn) is under control (huparchei) in (en) [the] heavens (ouranois), out (ex) of which (hou) we cause ourselves to receive out from (apekdechometha) [them, AE] [a] savior4990 (sōtēra) also (kai), lord (kurion) Jesus (Iēsoun) Christ (Christon);
(Both
the God and his son Christ Jesus are referred to as
saviors by the apostles. The clear distinction the holy scriptures
make between the roles of the two is that the God
prepared the plan and the
schematic for our salvation
(Heb. 3:1-4; Rom. 3:23-25; Eph. 1:7-9; Luke 1:47; 1 Tim. 1:1, 2:3, 4:10;
2 Tim. 1:9; Tit. 1:2-3, 2:10, 3:4; Jude 1:25, Rev. 7:10), while Christ
Jesus, who caused himself to follow God’s plan and schematic, caused
himself to become God’s enabling one, or instrument of our salvation (Heb. 5:9; Luke 2:11; John 4:42; Acts
5:31, 13:23; Eph. 5:23; Phil. 3:20; 2 Tim. 1:10; Tit. 1:2-4, 2:13, 3:6;
2 Pet. 1:1, 1:11, 2:20, 3:2, 18; 1 John 4:14).
Phil. 3:21 (LIT/UBS4) who (hos) shall transform (metaschēmatisei) the (to) body (sōma) of the (tēs) humbling (tapeinōseōs) of us (hēmōn) to [a] form together with (summorphon) the (tō) body (sōmati) of the (tēs) glory (doxēs) of him (autou), down according to (kata) the (tēn) energy (energeian) of the (tou) [body, RE] to be inherently powered (dunasthai) of him (auton), and (kai) [down according to, RE] all (panta) of the things (ta) to be put in submission5293 (hupotaxai) to him (autō)!
