Chapter 5

Update:  2023.12.18

Rom. 5:1 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), we having been made righteous (dikaiōthentes) out (ek) of belief (pisteōs), we hold (echomen) peace (eirēnēn) toward (pros) the (ton) God (theon) through (dia) the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn), Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou);

Rom. 5:2 (LIT/UBS4) through (di’) whom (hou) we have had (eschēkamen) the (tēn) approach (prosagōgēn) also (kai) to the (tē) belief (pistei) into (eis) the (tēn) grace (charin) of this (tautēn) in (en) which (hē) we have stood (hestēkamen);

and (kai) we cause ourselves to boast (kauchōmetha) upon (ep’) hope (elpidi) of the (tēs) glory (doxēs) of the (tou) God (theou).

Rom. 5:3 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) absolutely not (ou) only (monon) [upon hope, v2, RE]!

BUT (alla), we cause ourselves to boast (kauchōmetha) in (en) the (tais) mental pressures (thlipsesin) also (kai), we having seen (eidotes) that (hoti) the (hē) mental pressure (thlipsis) causes itself to work down (katergazetai) endurance (hupomonēn)!

Rom. 5:4 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (hē) endurance (hupomonē) [causes itself to work down, v3, RE] proof (dokimēn);

but (de) the (hē) proof (dokimē) [causes itself to work down, v3, RE] hope (elpida);

Rom. 5:5 (LIT/UBS4) but (de) the (hē) hope (elpis) absolutely does not put [us, AE] down to shame (ou kataischunei)!

Because (hoti) the (hē) loving one (agapē) of the (tou) God (theou) has been poured out (ekkechutai) in (en) to the (tais) hearts (kardiais) of us (hēmōn) through (dia) holy (hagiuo) Spirit (pneumatos), the (tou) [Spirit, RE] having been given (dothentos) to us (hēmin).

(For the loving one of the God having been poured out in to the hearts of us, see Rom. 5:5, 15, 8:8-10; 1 Cor. 16:22-24; Col. 1:27.)

Rom. 5:6 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) of us (hēmōn) yet (eti) being (ontōn) disabled ones (asthenōn), yet (eti) Christ (Christos), down according to (kata) [a] time (kairon), died away (apethanen) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of impious ones (asebōn)!

Rom. 5:7 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) anyone (tis) would difficultly cause himself to die away (molis apothaneitai) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of [a] righteous one (dikaiou)!

Because (gar) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of the (tou) good one (agathou) [is] anyone (tis) quickly audacious enough (tacha tolma) to die away (apothanein) also (kai) ?

Rom. 5:8 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) God (theos) introduces (sunistēsin) the (tēn) love (agapēn) [from, AE] himself (heautou) into (eis) us (hēmas);

 because (hoti) we (hēmōn) yet (eti) being (ontōn) sinful ones (hamartōlōn), Christ (Christos) died away (apethanen) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of us (hēmōn).

(For apostle Paul, Timothy and Silas not introducing themselves, but introducing and preaching the Word of God of God’s love to us, through Jesus Christ, see Rom. 5:8; 2 Cor. 3:1, 4:5, 5:12)

Rom. 5:9 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), much (pollō) more (mallon), we having been made righteous (dikaiōthentes) now (nun) in (en) the (tō) blood (haimati) of him (autou), shall we be kept whole (sōthēsometha) through (di’) [the sake, AE] of him (autou) from (apo) the (tēs) anger (orgēs) [of the God, v8, RE].

Rom. 5:10 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) if (ei) we being (ontes) hated ones (echthroi) were reconciled (katēllagēmen) to the (tō) God (theō) through (dia) the (tou) death (thanatou) of the (tou) son (huiou) of him (autou), we having been reconciled (katallagentes) we shall be kept whole (sōthēsometha) much (pollō) more (mallon) in (en) the (tē) life (zōē) of him (autou)!

Rom. 5:11 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) absolutely not (ou) only (monon) [shall we be kept whole, v10, RE], BUT (alla), [we are, AE] ones causing ourselves to boast (kauchōmenoi) also (kai) in (en) the (tō) God (theō), through (dia) the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn), Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou), through (di’) whom (hou) now (nun) we received (elabomen) the (tēn) reconciliation (katallagēn)!

Rom. 5:12 (LIT/UBS4) Through (dia) this (touto), as (hōsper) through (di’) one (henos) mortal (anthrōpou), the (hē) sin (hamartia) entered in (eisēlthen) into (eis) the (ton) cosmos (kosmon), and (kai) through (dia) the (tēs) sin (hamartias) the (ho) death (thanatos).

Thusly (houtōs) into (eis) all (pantas) mortals (anthrōpos) also (kai), the (ho) death (thanatos) came through (diēlthen) over (eph’) all (pantes) who (hō) have sinned (hēmarton).

Rom. 5:13 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) until (achri) law (nomou) sin (hamartia) was being (ēn) in (en) [the] cosmos (kosmō).

But (de) sin (hamartia) is absolutely not reckoned in (ouk ellogeitai), there not being (mē ontos) [a] law (nomou)!

Rom. 5:14 (LIT/UBS4) But (alla), the (ho) death (thanatos) was king (ebasileusen) from (apo) Adam (Adam) until (mechri) Moses (Mōuseōs), and (kai) over (epi) the ones (tous) not (mē) having sinned (hamartēsantas) upon (epi) the (tō) likeness (homoiōmati) of the (tēs) side-stepping (parabaseōs) of Adam (Adam), who (hos) is (estin) [a] type5179 (tupos) of the one (tou) being about (mellontos) [to judge, AE]!

Rom. 5:15 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (all’), absolutely not (ouch) as (hōs) the (to) side-fall3900 (paraptōma) [is] thusly (houtōs) the (to) gracious gift (charisma) also (kai)

Because (gar) if (ei) for the (tō) side-fall3900 (paraptōmati) of the (tou) one (henos) the (hoi) many (polloi) died away (apethanon), much (pollō) more (mallon) abounded (eperisseusen) the (hē) grace (charis) of the (tou) God (theou), and (kai) the (hē) gift (dōrea) [abounded, ER] in (en) grace (chariti), the (tē) [gift, RE] of the (tou) one (henos) mortal (anthrōpou), Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou), [abounded, ER into (eis) the (tous) many (pollous)!

(For the loving one of the God having been poured out in to the hearts of us, see Rom. 5:5, 15, 8:8-10; 1 Cor. 16:22-24; Col. 1:27.)

Rom. 5:16 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) absolutely not (ouch) as (hōs) through (di’) one (henos) having sinned (hamartēsantos) the (to) gift (dōrēma) [abounded, v15, ER]!

Because (gar), truly (men), the (to) judicial decision (krima) [abounded, v15, ER] out (ek) [of the side-fall, v15, RE] of one (henos) into (eis) [a] condemnation (katakrima) [of many, v15, RE]!

But (de) the (to) gracious gift (charisma) [abounded, v15, ER] out (ek) of many (pollōn) side-falls3900 (paraptōmatōn) into (eis) [one, RE] righteous purpose (dikaiōma).

Rom. 5:17 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) if (ei) [through, RE] the (tō) side-fall3900 (paraptōmati) of the (tou) one (henos) death (thanatos) was king (ebasileusen) through (dia) the (tou) one (henos), much (pollō) more (mallon) <shall> the ones (hoi) receiving (lambanontes) the (tēn) abundance (perisseian) of the (tēs) grace (charitos) and (kai) of the (tēs) gift (dōreas) of righteousness (dikaiosunēs) be kings (ebasileusousin) in (en) life (zōē) through (dia) the (tou) one (henos), Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou)!

(For the one making kings, see Rom. 5:17; 1 Cor. 4:8; 1 Tim. 6:15; Rev. 1:6a, 5:10; 17:14; 22:5)

Rom. 5:18 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), so (ara) as (hōs) through (di’) [a] side-fall3900 (paraptōmatos) of one (henos) [sin entered in, v15, RE] into (eis) all (pantas) mortals (anthrōpous), into (eis) [a] condemnation (katakrima) [of them, AE], thusly (houtōs) through (di’) [a] righteous purpose (dikaiōmatos) of one (henos) also (kai) [the gracious gift entered in, v17, RE] into (eis) all (pantas) mortals (anthrōpous), into (eis) [a] pronouncement of righteousness (dikaiōsin) of life (zōēs).

Rom. 5:19 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) so be it as (hōsper) through (dia) the (tēs) inattentive hearing (parakoēs) of the (tou) one (henos) mortal (anthrōpou) the (hoi) many (polloi) were appointed (katestathēsan) [to be] sinful ones (hamartōloi), thusly (houtōs) through (dia) the (tēs) attentive hearing (hupakoēs) of the (tou) one (henos) the (hoi) many (polloi) shall be appointed (katastathēsontai) [to be] righteous ones (dikaioi) also (kai).

Rom. 5:20 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) law (nomos) entered in alongside (pareisēlthen), in order that (hina) the (to) side-fall3900 (paraptōma) may increase (pleonasē).

But (de) where (hou) the (hē) sin (hamartia) increased (epleonasen) the (hē) grace (charis) super-abounded (hupereperisseusen);

Rom. 5:21 (LIT/UBS4) in order that (hina), so be it as (hōsper) the (hē) sin (hamartia) was king (ebasileusen) in (en) the (tō) death (thanatō), thusly (houtōs) the (hē) grace (charis) also (kai) may be king (basileusē) through (dia) righteousness (dikaiosunēs), into (eis) ageless (aiōnion) life (zōēn), through (dia) Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou) the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn).
