1 Pet. 2:2 (LIT/UBS4) as (hōs) babies (brephē) generated at this time (artigennēta), long over (epipothēsate) the (to) logical (logikon) milk (gala) without guile (adolon);

in order that (hina) in (en) it (autō) you may be caused to grow (auxēthēte) into (eis) wholeness (sōtērian),

1 Pet. 2:3 (LIT/UBS4) if (ei) you caused yourself to taste (egeusasthe) that (hoti) the (ho) lord (kurios) [is] [a] benevolent one (chrēstos),

1 Pet. 2:4 (LIT/UBS4) to (pros) whom (hon) you are causing yourselves to become (proserchomenoi) [a] living (zōnta) stone (lithon)!

Truly (men), under (hupo) [authority, AE] of mortals (anthrōpōn), [the stone, ER] [is] [[a] stone, ER] having received disapproval (apodedokimasmenon)!

But (de) alongside (para) to God (theō), [the stone, ER] [is] [a] called out (eklekton) honorable (entimon) [stone, ER].

1 Pet. 2:5 (LIT/UBS4) You (autoi) also (kai), as (hōs) living (zōntes) stones (lithoi), you are being built [into, AE] domed-roof houses3618 (oikodomeisthe), [a] Spirit-based (pneumatikos) house (oikos);

into (eis) [a] holy (hagion) priesthood (hierateuma), to bring up (anenenkai) Spirit-based (pneumatikas) sacrifices (thusias) well received to (euprosdektous) the (tō) God (theō), through (dia) [the sake, AE] of Jesus (Iēsous) Christ (Christou);

(For what is God’s prophesied true “tent”, his new holy place under his new covenant, the prophesied promise of the Father to place himself into believers to live in them as his new permanent domicile, a true “tent” not built with mortal’s hands but with his own hand, see Ex. 15:17; 2 Sam. 7:5-16; Isa. 8:14; Ezek. 11:16; Joel 2:28-29; Amos 9:11-12; Mat. 3:11, 16:18, 26:61, 27:39-40; Mark 14:58, 15:29; Luke 3:21-22, 24:49; *John 2:19-22, 3:1-, 4:20-24, 7:37-39, 14:2, *23; Acts 1:4-5, 2:16-18, 33, 38-39, *7:44-50, *15:16-18, *17:24, *20:28; *Rom. 8:9-11, 12:4-5; 1 Cor. *3:16-17, *6:19-20, 10:16-17, 12:12-28; *2 Cor. 5:1, *6:16-18; Gal. 3:14, 22; Eph. 1:13-14, 22-23, *2:17-22, 3:6, 4:11-16, 5:30-32; Col. 1:18-27, 2:6-10, 3:15; *1 Thes. 5:9-11; *1 Tim. 3:15; *2 Tim. 1:14; Heb. *3:4-6, 8:2, *9:11-15, *24, 10:21, 36; 1 Pet. 2:4-5; 1 John 4:12-16; Rev. 3:12, 7:15, 11:19, *13:6, *21:3, 22)

1 Pet. 2:6 (LIT/UBS4) through the reason that (dioti) there is held around (periechei) in (en) [a] writing (graphē), “Behold (idou), I place (tithēmi) in (en) Zion (Siōn) [an] angle tip204 (akrogōniaion) stone (lithon), [a] called out (eklekton) honorable (entimon) [stone, RE]!

And (kai) the one (ho) believing (pisteuōn) upon (ep’) him (autō), no, absolutely not may he be put down to shame (ou mē kataischunthē)!"

(For believers being built into a domed-roof house, see Mat. 21:42; Eph. 2:20-22; 1 Pet. 2:4-6)

1 Pet. 2:7 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), for you (humin) [is placed, v6, RE] the (hē) [angle tip stone, v6, RE] of honor (timē), for the ones (tois) believing (pisteuousin).

But (de) [for the ones, RE] disbelieving (apistousin), [the angle tip stone, v6, RE] [is] [a] stone (lithos) which (hon) the ones (hoi) building [a] domed-roof house3618 (oikodomountes) disapproved (apedokimasan)!

This (houtos) [angle tip stone, v6] was caused to become (egenēthē) into (eis) [a] head (kephalēn) of [an] angle1137 (gōnias),

(For a stone becoming a head of an angle, see Psalm 118:22-23; Isa. 28:16-17; Mat. 21:42; Mark 12:10-11; Luke 20:17; Acts 4:1-11; Eph. 2:20; 1 Pet. 2:4-7)

(For an outline of Jesus Christ’s accomplishments in his earthly agency to his heavenly Father, see the note under Mat. 3:17.)

1 Pet. 2:8 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) [a] stone (lithos) of stumbling (proskommatos), and (kai) [a] rock (petra) of scandal (skandalou), [to the, AE] ones who (hoi) strike (proskoptousin) the (tō) Word (logō), ones being dissuaded (apeithountes);

into (eis) which (ho) they were placed (etethēsan) also (kai).

1 Pet. 2:9 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) you (humeis) [are] [a] called out (eklekton) genus (genos), [a] kingly (basileion) priesthood (hierateuma), [a] holy (hagion) ethnic group (ethnos), [a] people (laos) in (eis) [a] periphery (peripoiēsin);

(For a kingdom of sacrificial priests, what it is and when it began, see *Heb. 6:13-8:6; 1 Pet. 2:5-9; Rev. 1:6)

it so being that (hopōs) you may get out the message (exangeilēte) of the (tas) virtues (aretas) of the (tou) [God, v4, RE] having called (kalesantos) you (humas) out (ek) of darkness (skotous) into (eis) the (to) amazing (thaumaston) light (phōs) of him (autou);

(For the promise of the Father, of God himself placing himself into believers to live in them, see Joel 2:28-29; Mat. 3:11; Luke 24:49; John 7:37-39; Acts 1:4-5, 2:16-21, 33, 39, 20:28; Gal. 3:14, 22; Eph. 1:13-14, 3:6; 1 Thes. 5:9-11; 2 Thes. 2:13-14; Heb. 9:11-15, 10:36-39; 1 Pet. 2:4-9; 1 John 4:16b)

(For Jesus Christ being prophesied as a great light coming, the one who would shed light on the knowledge of God’s Word for a people being caused to sit down in darkness, see Isa. 9:1-2, 49:1-6; Mat. 4:12-16, 10:26-27; *Mark 4:21-23; Luke 1:76-79, 2:25-32, 8:16-17, 11:33, 12:1-3; John 1:1-14, 3:1-21, 8:12, 9:5, 11:9-10, 12:34-36, 41-46; Acts 13:46-47, 26:22-23; 2 Cor. 4:1-6; Eph. 5:8, 13, 14; Col. 1:12; 1 Thes. 5:5; 1 Pet. 2:9; 2 Pet. 1:19; 1 John 2:8-10.)

1 Pet. 2:10 (LIT/UBS4) ones who (hoi) in time past (pote) [were] absolutely not (ou) [a] people (laos), but (de) [are] now (nun) [a] people (laos) of God (theou);

the ones (hoi) absolutely not having been given mercy (ouk ēleēmenoi), but (de) [are] now (nun) ones having been given mercy (eleēthentes)!

1 Pet. 2:11 (LIT/UBS4) Beloved ones (agapētoi), I accost (parakalō) [you, v9, RE] as (hōs) side-housers3941 (paroikous) and (kai) sojourners (parepidēmous) to cause yourselves to hold away from (apechesthai) the (tōn) flesh-based (sarkikōn) lusts (epithumiōn), ones which (haitines) cause themselves to be soldiers (strateuontai) down against (kata) the (tēs) soul (psuchēs) [of you, v9, RE],

1 Pet. 2:12 (LIT/UBS4) you holding (echontes) the (tēn) beautiful (kalēn) behavior (anastrophēn) of you (humōn) among (en) the (tois) ethnic groups (ethnesin);

in order that (hina) in (en) which thing (hō) they talk down (katalalousin) of you (humōn) as (hōs) doers of maliciousness (kakopoiōn), out (ek) of peering upon (epopteuontes) the (tōn) beautiful (kalōn) works (ergōn) [of you, RE] they may glorify (doxasōsin) the (ton) God (theon) in (en) [a] day (hēmera) of [an] episcopacy (episkopēs).

1 Pet. 2:13 (LIT/UBS4) Be put in submission5293 (hupotagēte) to every (pasē) mortal (anthrōpinē) creature (ktisei) through (dia) [the sake, AE] of the (ton) lord (kurion);

whether (eite) to [a] king (basilei), as (hōs) he being superior (huperechonti);

1 Pet. 2:14 (LIT/UBS4) or whether (eite) to leaders (hēgemosin), as (hōs) they being sent (pempomenois) through (di’) him (autou) into (eis) vengeance (ekdikēsin) of doers of maliciousness (kakopoiōn).

But (de) praise (epainon) doers of good (agathopoiōn),

1 Pet. 2:15 (LIT/UBS4) because (hoti) thusly (houtōs) is (estin) the (to) desire (thelēma) of the (tou) God (theou):

doing good (agathopoiountas) to muzzle (phimoun) the (tēn) ignorance (agnōsian) of the (tōn) foolish (aphronōn) mortals (anthrōpōn);

1 Pet. 2:16 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) as (hōs) free ones (eleutheroi), not (mē) holding (echontes) the (tēn) freedom (eleutherian) as (hōs) [a] covering over (epikalumma) of the (tēs) malice (kakias), BUT (all’), [holding the freedom, RE] as (hōs) slaves (douloi) of God (theou)!

(For to whom to be in submission, see Rom. 13:1-2; 1 Pet. 2:13-16)

1 Pet. 2:17 (LIT/UBS4) Honor (timēsate) all (pantas).

Love (agapate) the (tēn) brotherhood (adelphotēta).

Be made fearful (phobeisthe) of the (ton) God (theon).

Honor (timate) the (ton) king (basilea).

1 Pet. 2:18 (LIT/UBS4) The (hoi) householders (oiketai), in (en) all (panti) fear (phobō),  you be ones being put in submission5293 (hupotassomenoi) to the (tois) [house, AE] masters (despotais);

absolutely not (ou) only (monon) to the (tois) good ones (agathois), and (kai) gentle ones (epieikesin), BUT (alla), to the (tois) crooked ones (skoliois) also (kai)!

1 Pet. 2:19 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) this (touto) [is] grace (charis) - if (ei) through (dia) [a] conscience (suneidēsin) of God (theou) anyone (tis) unrighteously (adikōs) suffering (paschōn) grief (lupas) bears up under (hupopherei) [crooked ones, v18, RE] .

1 Pet. 2:20 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) which (poion) calling (kleos) [is] [it, AE], if (ei) you shall endure (hupomeneite) sinning (hamartanontes) and (kai) being struck with [a] fist (kolaphizomenoi)?

But (all’), if (ei) you shall endure (hupomeneite) doing good (agathopoiountes) and (kai) suffering (paschontes) [for it, AE], this (touto) [is] grace (charis) alongside3844, 3936 (para) God (theō)!

1 Pet. 2:21 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) into (eis) this (touto) you were called aloud (eklēthēte);

because (hoti) Christ (Christos) also (kai) suffered (epathen) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of you (humōn), leaving down (hupolimpanōn) to you (humin) [an] underwriting (hupogrammon), in order that (hina) you may follow over (epakolouthēsēte) the (tois) steps (ichnesin) of him (autou),

(For a believer's responsibility to stand himself alongside of the Father through doing good works, in order to receive anything from him, see Mat. 6:1-4, 18:19, 19:26, 21:42; Mark 10:27, 12:11; Luke 1:30, 37; John 5:44, 6:45-46, 8:38-42, 9:16, 33, 17:5-8; Rom. 2:11-13, 6:13, 12:1; 1 Cor. 7:24, 8:8a; 2 Cor. 9:8; Gal. 3:11; Eph. 6:8; 1 Tim. 2:10; 2 Tim. 3:17; Tit. 2:14, 3:8,14; Heb. 10:24; James 1:5-7, 27; 1 Pet. 2:20-21; 2 Pet. 3:8; 2 John 1:3; Rev. 2:28)

1 Pet. 2:22 (LIT/UBS4) who (hos) absolutely did not sin (ouk hamartian)!

But absolutely not (oude) was there found (heurethē) guile (dolos) in (en) the (tō) mouth (stomati) of him (autou);

1 Pet. 2:23 (LIT/UBS4) who (hos) being verbally abused (loidoroumenos) was absolutely not verbally abusing in opposition (ouk anteloidorei);

[who, RE] suffering (paschōn) was absolutely not threatening (ouk ēpeilei)!

But (de) he was deferring (paredidou) to the one (tō) judging (krinonti) righteously (dikaiōs);

1 Pet. 2:24  (LIT/UBS4) who (hos) himself (autos) brought up (anēnenken) the (tas) sins (hamartias) of us (hēmōn), in (en) the (tō) body (sōmati) of him (autou), upon (epi) the (to) tree (xulon);

in order that (hina) we having caused ourselves to become away from (apogenomenoi) the (tais) sins (hamartiais) [of us, RE], we may live (zēsōmen) for the (tē) righteousness (dikaiosunē) [of him, RE];

of which (hou) [righteousness, RE], for the (tō) bruising (mōlōpi) of him (autou), you were healed (iathēte)!

1 Pet. 2:25 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) you were being (ēte) as (hōs) sheep (probata), ones being caused to wander (planōmenoi).

BUT (alla), now (nun) you are turned back (epestraphēte) over (epi) to the (ton) shepherd (poimena) and (kai) episcopate (episkopon) of the (tōn) souls (psuchōn) of you (humōn)!
